Football NSW Coach Education Manager Oscar Gonzalez recently took part in promoting the round ball game to various inmates at the Goulburn Correctional Celebrate to celebrate the completion of a ten-week sports management and coaching techniques pilot program alongside other sports.

The program has given inmates an ideal opportunity to learn coaching techniques while also assisting with their self-confidence and personal development.

Seven inmates took part in the program which included completing an official course through NSW Sport and Recreation, team building and problem solving as well as coaching techniques from Football via Gonzalez as well as Rugby League and Australian Rules putting through their versions of sessions.

Gonzalez voluntarily ran sessions and shared his skills and knowledge with participants and was overwhelmed with the response he received from them.

“It was an amazing experience and one that I will never forget.

“You could tell the boys really wanted to give it a go and the effort they put into it was second to none.

“I was privileged to have been a part of something special such as this especially being able to assist and aid in further promoting our sport across all aspects of our society.

“I want to thank the boys as well as Goulburn Correction Centre for allowing me to put on this session as I know I would like to do it again in the not too distant future.”
