Lundy chasing Championship
APIA Leichhardt Tigers may have won the PlayStation®4 National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s Premiership, but defender Brandon Lundy insists his team is only just getting started.
The Lambert Park side’s incredible late season run to snatch the title from competition frontrunners Blacktown City ended an incredible 30-year trophy drought for the club.
However, Lundy said his side is fired up to make it a shorter wait between drinks for their next bit of silverware.
“The Premiership win has increased our hunger and our drive to taste success on a more regular basis,” Lundy said.
“We are more determined than ever and the way we finished the season is testament to the quality of the team.
“We’ve had a week off, now we are refreshed and ready to win our way to the grand final.
The 21-year-old, who moved to APIA from the Newcastle Jets midway through last season, says a move to defence and consistent game time has him playing some of his best football
“I have gained so much experience this season and just the chance to get on the park week in and week out has been a big part of that,” he said.
“Moving positions from playing on the wing to a more defensive role has been a bit of a learning curve but I’m feeling more comfortable in that role now.”
The full-back said he was not surprised by Rockdale City Suns’ shock win against Blacktown City in the Preliminary Semi-Final but has been focused on his own performance instead of the opposition.
“We had no expectations for who we would play in the Semi-Finals but we were confident no matter what,” Lundy said.
“Rockdale City Suns are a tough side but we will just stick to our game plan.
“We are really looking forward to playing Rockdale. We had a tough matchup last time and we were able to come away with a dare. This time we won’t be happy with anything less than a win.”
Efficiency in front of goal will be one of the keys to victory on Saturday, says Lundy.
“In our last match against Rockdale City Suns we created chance after chance and just couldn’t find the back of the net,” he said.
“We did well in the second half in that match to come back from a goal down but it will likely be much tougher this time around.
“If we get numbers forward and keep the pressure on them the goals are sure to come.”
