State titles September success
It was lauded as Football NSW’s ‘State Titles September’, and by word did it live up to its expectations as football fever swept the entire State with the likes of Mudgee and Glenwood soaking in the action.
Teams in the 15 Boys assembled at Valentine Sports Park to witness some fantastic football action played from a number of rising stars in the state. It was Stuart Farrell’s Met South side that took out all the plaudits as they were crowned State Title Winners while Met North finished runners-up. Callum Christie’s Country Western clinched the Country Championship as they wore off their nearest rivals Country Riverina in what was a hotly contested battle.
There was a plethora of action at the wonderful Glen Willow Regional Sports Complex as the 12 Boys, 12 Girls, 14 Girls and 16 Girls all put on a sterling show across the week-long festival of football.
The 12 Boys and 12 Girls as noted in the SAP format for rules and regulations were non-competitive matches for points however saw free flowing football played from all teams who thoroughly enjoyed their experience
The 14 Girls saw Met West take out the big award as State Title winners Benjamin Gough’s side powered through beating off Met Far North for the major title. While Bradley Banks’ Country Southern pushed it to the limit taking out the Country Championship beating off Country Western.
While finally in the 16 Girls category, Matthew Costantini’s City Central West took out the Championship beating of City North while Robert Cheyne’s Country Southern side were too good winning the Country Championship.
Football NSW State Titles Coordinator Kim Burge was impressed with reports that the State Titles were deemed a huge success.
“From all reports all venues were very well received as was the football which was witnessed by many at both venues.
“These Football NSW State Titles are conducted annually and are an essential part of the recognised Talented Player Pathway for State Team selections.
“We would like to congratulate all players, managers, officials, referees and the parents who played a key role in making these State Titles such a memorable experience.”
