Walking Football a storming success
Nepean Football Association’s Walking Football program is in full swing following the official launch in September this year.
A program supported by Football NSW and the NSW Government – Family and Community Services, the collaborative pilot program is aimed at targeting inactivity in over 50’s and promoting an enjoyable and active social gathering.
The program has been instrumental in re-engaging with former players both male and female, club volunteers and seniors experiencing a format of the beautiful game for the first time.
“As a participant returning to the sport, I’m really enjoying the experience. Its great fun connecting with other people with similar interests in a team environment,” explained Nepean Football Association General Manager Linda Cerone who has actively lead the charge for participants in the Nepean area.
“It’s a lot of fun, a lot of laughs, we get fit and don’t take ourselves too seriously”
Football NSW Member Services Manager, Matt Rippon was ecstatic with the success of the Pilot Programs, with a view to grow and implement further in the coming seasons.
“It’s great to see so many people coming along to try these programs.
“What’s especially rewarding is seeing the huge amount of Club Volunteers and Committee members taking part in the games.
“I have no doubt this format is ideal for the winter game and a great opportunity for those who do so much for their clubs on the weekend to socialise and have some fun.”
Such is the interest and great reception there’s already plans to continue the program in the winter months too.
