Summer Football continues to hit the right notes for 2017 as numbers and centres have soared at both the Ryde Saints and Gladesville Sharks venues.

Morrison Bay Park in Putney was the scene where Gladesville Sharks have set up shop for its Summer Football campaign as Joe Calvi has been steering the ship at the club.

Football NSW Development Officer Lauren Moore visited the venue on Thursday 16th of November as she took in the sights and sounds on what was a productive evening at the pitch and caught up with Calvi regarding its Summer Football progression.

“Our competitions have been successfully running for 32 years with both men and women’s competitions striving.

“This year we picked up 6 new teams and we are onto our 10 to 15 affiliation clubs with Football NSW.

“Thursday nights showcase the girls and women with all playing at our grounds from 6pm onwards from ages of U9’s to Open Women’s.

“Thursday’s have always been very popular with the women and its always the same faces that keep coming back year in and year out, our division one team is quite competitive also.”

Calvi also shared his passion in putting together a program for children with disabilities as well as wanting to see juniors involved in Summer Football Champion of Champions finals day.

Moore then visited Pidding Park on Friday 17th of November where the Ryde Saints call home and caught up with Club President John Zappala.

Zappala was pleased with how the club’s numbers were running this Summer Football campaign with his venue catering for ages ranging from Under 7’s upwards to the Under 17’s on Monday, Thursday and Friday evenings.

“Since taking over 3-4 years ago, the numbers have grown and increased from 70 to 139 as we don’t advertise much however it’s great to see this improvement.”

As his competition mostly caters for juniors, Zappala expressed interest in the ALDI MiniRoos kick-off programs and wanted to explore more avenues with this.
