Football NSW conduct successful Community Goalkeeping Workshop in Albury

While for many in Community football, the end of the year usually represents some well-earned time off, over the weekend, Football NSW continued their off-season roadshows in preparation for the 2018 grassroots season as a successful Goalkeeping Workshop was hosted in Albury’s Glen Park conducted by former Socceroo Jim Fraser.

Having recently travelled to Bathurst and Dubbo, Fraser was again in full swing sharing his immense knowledge with local shotstoppers and their coaches alike.

Glen Park, Albury was the location where trainee coaches watched Fraser in full swing and then attempted to conduct sessions of their own under his watchful eye.

Albury Wodonga’s Vice President of High Performance Simon Randall stated the importance Fraser’s visit was to the development of the local goalkeepers within the regional NSW area.

“The aim of the program is to offer our players the best possible assistance from the get go.

“We will be investing in programs that will provide help in the beginner ages of 6 to 12 and then more in-depth training for those 12 to 16.

“We will be investing equipment and the training of those coaches that will be conducting the training. Therefore, having Jim here is a critical cog in that wheel.

“The programs will be conducted in the school terms starting with Term 1 next year and run each school term.  We will have Jim return to keep the program on track and assist with monitoring of the development of both players and coaches.”

Fraser was very complementary of the players he worked with over the three days, and has already signalled out two potential stars on a watch program for further development in state programs.

“I was again surprised by the standard o the players and in particular a young female player that showed great resilience and mental attitude to the training.

“These are the kinds of players that we need to know about, so that we can provide the appropriate support from a Football NSW point of view.”
