Pennant Hills thriving off Summer Football site

As has been the case for so many Summer Football centres across Sydney, Pennant Hills Park has been a hive of activity as football continues to put a firm grip as the number one participated and played sport within the area in both the cooler and hotter months.

On Wednesday 22nd of November, Football NSW Development Officer Lauren Moore visited Grahame Bateman, the Vice President at Pennant Hills Park as he discussed his views on what has been a great year thus far.

“The Summer Football centre has been running for two successive years now and the Under 6’s, 7’s and 8’s are thoroughly enjoying playing on the synthetic pitches at Pennant Hills Park,” Moore stated.

“It’s amazing to see the smiles on the kids faces playing the beautiful game that is football.”

Bateman equally was happy with how the centre has progressed with its healthy numbers.

“The kids are enjoying their summer football experience and we’ve seen some great matches on offer by some very talented youngsters.

“One other aspect apart from the football played is that the kids enjoy running straight down to the administrator’s desk where they receive their free zooper doper ice blocks after each match.”

One good initiative and rule that Bateman has put in place has been the no forfeit concept as game time is still given, otherwise matches are either postponed and replayed at another convenient time.

Bateman believes that this is value for money as in his words, “people are here to play football, so we let them play.”

Bateman stated that he was in discussions with Epping FC in potentially joining forces in early January with the hope of creating a smaller Summer Football competition prior to the 2018 grassroots kicking off next year. The thought process behind this was to create a competition to act as a great way to commence the 2018 via a proper pre-season tournament.
