Challenge Shield ready to rock at Granville

The 2018 Granville & Districts Soccer Football Association’s top tier Premier League competition will be playing for the oldest football shield in Australia, the ‘Challenge Shield’ it was announced on Thursday.

Following on from last season’s Platinum League 2 where both Granville & Districts Soccer Football Association and Bankstown Districts Soccer Football Associations clubs competed against each other, will this year see GDSFA teams compete for the coveted Shield that was introduced in 1902.

The GDSFA is hoping that clubs such as the Wenty Waratahs, Pendle Hill, Toongabbie, Dundas and others coming back to the league will help assist in the rebuild of this highly competitive competition as well as aiding and assisting with the further development of players within the football mad area.

All clubs will also gain automatic qualification into the Cottam Cup, the oldest knock-out competition in Australia, since 1907.

Prize money will be on offer for the winners and runners up of the Challenge Shield as an extra incentive.
