Going Purple For Pancreatic Cancer Campaign 2018

What began as a social awareness campaign in 2015, has grown to be a visually empowering campaign that shoots Pancreatic Cancer front and centre into footballing communities.

The #goingpurpleforpancreatic cancer campaign is entering its fourth year, and truly is making waves in local Football NSW club communities.

Avner Governor, Isabella DiManno started this campaign to raise awareness and necessary funds of Pancreatic Cancer research when her fiancé mother was diagnosed with the disease in 2014.

In under four years the campaign has raised close to $40,000 for research with the ambition to keep on raising more.

“By changing your club football socks to Purple Avner Socks, we are shooting for change together, to lift the social profile of Pancreatic Cancer and raise funds for desperately needed research. The campaign unities communities through active participation and acts as a positive talking point between people who might not necessarily know the outcome of Pancreatic Cancer,” Ms DiManno states.

After Football NSW released the article on the campaign last year, the Avner team were inundated with interest and participants.

Director of Mens Football for Gladesville Ravens Sports Club, Lee Hay commented on the impact that this campaign had on their sporting community:

“As a community club we were so proud to get involved in such a worthwhile campaign and charity. I was overwhelmed by the support all the players and teams of the club contributed to the #goingpurpleforpancreatic cancer campaign. This is a great initiative to single out the awareness of pancreatic cancer for the Avner Pancreatic Cancer Foundation. I got so many messages from people within the club that are affected somehow by this. With survival rates as low as 8%, it’s uplifting to be a part of the strong message led by Isabella DiManno and Caroline Kelly of the Foundation.”
