Valentine Sports Park hosted a Female Only referees training session on Saturday 24th of February as 40 keen and enthusiastic participants took part in what were sweltering conditions in Sydney’s West and just in time for Female Football Week.

The likes of leading Westfield W-League NSW officials such as Sarah Ho, Katie Patterson and Kelly Jones put the girls through their paces via various drills and tests prior to the commencement of the new football season.

“The day was a fantastic opportunity to meet so many aspiring female referees and to pass on my knowledge,” Sarah Ho stated to Football NSW.

“I was really pleased with the talent of the referees and their drive to improve.”

Football NSW Referees Education Coordinator Rob Nieuwenhuis was happy with how the day progressed and expected that these sessions would increase.

“The day consisted of technical, physical training and to promote opportunity within Women’s football, and from all reports it did just that – promote the game to our women in a fantastic way.

“I am hoping that this will spearhead many more Female Only referee opportunities in the not too distant future in the hope of unearthing many more talented NSW officials.”
