#FemaleFootballWeek at Wagga Futsal & Football Association

Wagga

The country town of Wagga Wagga sure know how to celebrate Female Football Week, with a host of activities held over the opening weekend of the national event.

The rural association began the festivities on Friday the 2nd of March with their annual Mini Matildas Gala day which started 4 years ago with around 250-300 primary school girls. This year in line with Female Football Week over 450 stage 2 and stage 3 girls took to Duke of Kent Oval representing 14 schools and 43 teams. The teams all played a minimum of 3 games with 90% of teams playing 4 games. The emphasis of the day was on participation and enjoyment with no scores kept or finals being played.

With plenty of giveaway from both the Matilda’s and Football NSW, the girls were more than keen to participate in question time after the session. All in all the day was a great success seeing over 450 girls out on the Football field enjoying the world game.

While away from the outdoor fields, Wagga Wagga Futsal held a gala day for primary schools. Wagga Futsal is passionate about giving our young female  players every opportunity to experience this wonderful game and offering our free session proved immensely popular. With over 25 participants ranging from 7 to 15 and from experienced players to those who have never played before, the girls had a great evening.

During this week’s competition all teams are encouraged to wear purple socks, shorts, sweatbands, shoelaces or even face paint as we celebrate females in football.

The girls participated in skill challenges, skills practices and then their favourite part of playing full sided futsal games! The girls all went home with Wagga Futsal playing shirts, lanyards, bag tags and Female Football Week bags, drink bottles, key Rings and the very popular  purple shoelaces.

Football NSW would like to thank Wagga Wagga Football and Fustal Associations for their commitment to not only promoting women’s football but also, in arranging these Female Football Week events
