SAP Gala Day cancelled this weekend

Goal-Post-Saftey

Football NSW has been monitoring the weather forecast ahead of this weekend and with temperatures predicted to reach 37 degrees on Saturday and 39 degrees on Sunday, we have taken the decision to CANCEL this weekend’s SAP Gala Day event.

This decision is consistent with previous advice from our office and in line with the FNSW Hot Weather Policy, parts of which are extracted below:

RECOMMENDED TEMPERATURES FOR CANCELLATION OF TRIAL GAMES AND TRAINING

Please contact the FNSW after hours contact for assistance and guidance if consideration is being considered to cancel matches

CHILDREN – 32°    (activity should be cancelled when ambient air temperature reaches 32°)

ADULTS  – 37°    (activity should be cancelled when ambient air temperature reaches 37°)

Exposure to extreme heat can be dangerous to the health of adults and pose an ever-greater risk to the health of children and young people.

Our monitoring of weather at Valentine Sports Park today showed temperatures of around 35 degrees, with the heat index (which takes into account other weather factors), reaching 39 degrees.  These temperatures are well above the recommended temperatures for safely participating in football, and with temperatures to be predicted to be even higher on the weekend, we have been left with no choice but to cancel the event..

We apologise for any inconvenience to you and your participants, however, this decision has been taken with the health, safety and welfare of all participants in mind.
