Griffith & District Football Association hope to inspire a new generation of talented female players to join the game of football.

During March, Female Football Week was celebrated a nationwide initiative about the immense growth of women’s football at all levels of the game and acknowledge and promote the important role women play in developing football.

GDFA Coach & Development Officer Doug McKenzie hopes to build female participation in the area, by conducting a Girls Only Gala Day on Tuesday 3rd April.

“Primary schools from around the region have been invited to participate. We have approx three hundred school aged girls participating from Kindergarten through to Year 6.”

The average national participation rate of girls playing soccer is around 22% and Griffith and surrounds fall below this. The objective of the Girls Only Gala Day is to coincide with Female Football Week with a key focus on increasing female player participation to the game of football. The Girls Only Gala Day will be held on Tuesday 3rd April 2018 from 10am to 1.30pm at Collina Oval Griffith and will include a series of coaching and round-robin games.

“A premium framed Matilda’s signed Jersey will be raffled off which we are very lucky to have received.”

In addition to this Griffith District Football Association will be hosting a School Girls Gala Day, which will take place on the 3rd of April 2018. The association expects approximately 350 girl to participate in the gala day, with teams entering Leeton, Yanco, Whitton, Darling Point, Yenda, Binya, Yoogali and Weethale just to name a few
