Coach Education making a difference in Bankstown

Bankstown District Amateur Football Association is now reaping the benefits of investing in Coach Education which is now making a difference in local grassroots coaches.

Bankstown Association is one of the oldest but smallest associations in the Sydney Metropolitan area with a proud history.

Over the past two football seasons there has been a big push in the association to increase the number of coaches in the area attending community coaching courses and increasing the skill sets of “volunteer” coaches.

In 2017 BDAFA organised several grassroots expos, with just over 100 coaches attending.

Those numbers in 2017 were massive compared to previous season, says BDAFA Coach Education Officer Scott Belgre.

“When you look at the number or registered coaches and teams, I was able to see almost 25% of the coaches in the area that season and provide them with fresh ideas and a structure to organise more effective and engaging sessions.

“In 2018 courses have been well received once again with large participant numbers at Grassroots and Skill Training Courses. We are in the middle of running a Skill Training Course and we have 23 coaches involved”, said Belgre.

“In the past seasons we have attempted to organise a skill course but have never registered enough interest. In 2018 we have a full Skill Course running, which shows a change in the mindsets and culture of the local clubs and the value they place in Coach Education.”

Football NSW Coach Education Manager, Oscar Gonzalez was in attendance for Part 1 of the current Skills Training course and was enthused by the increase and large number of coaches attending community courses in BDAFA.

“Scott is doing a wonderful job and is full of enthusiasm and knowledge which he is more than willing to share. There will be more Coach Education opportunities in May where the association aims to facilitate another Skill Training Course and conduct a Game Training workshop.

“Scott has said that the Information on these courses will be made available on the BDAFA Facebook page and website soon.”
