Dulwich Hill tp support the McGrath Foundation this Saturday
Football has a way of touching many people in many ways, and historic Inner West football club, Dulwich Hill FC, have once again found yet another way of supporting a very worthwhile cause with a fantastic initiative that commenced last year.
Dulwich Hill FC compete in the National Premier Leagues 3 NSW Men’s competition, and on Saturday, May 12, they welcome local neighbours and fierce derby rivals, Fraser Park, to Arlington Oval for a Round 10 fixture.
Dulwich Hill FC have chosen to devote the day to supporting the McGrath Foundation, a charity which offers support and assistance to individuals experiencing breast cancer, as well as their families.
It is a fantastic initiative, and one that the entire football community should and could support in any number of ways.
Dulwich Hill will put aside their usual playing strips, and wear a specially made pink playing strip, from the Under 13s fixture commencing at 8-30am right through to the 1st Grade fixture which will kick off at 7-00pm.
Additionally, it will be quite simple to donate funds to the charity – you can click on the following link;

The day will be celebrated with a carnival atmosphere, with plenty of food and drink available throughout, as well as a ‘legends’ game between the two clubs prior to the 1st Grade fixture.
The Legends match will feature a few former stars from both Dully and Fraser Park including Jose Mendez, Norman Tome, Petr Sestak, Marcus Frost, Sasha Tirovski, Eddie Giraldo, Danny Wilson, Alex Augusto, Robert Di Meglio, German Cabrera, Alex Leris, Alex Smith and Paulo Oliveira to name a few.
A big thanks to Dully’s opponents on the day – both Fraser Park (1st Grade / U20s / U18s) and Stanmore Hawks (U13s / U14s / U15s / U16s), who have agreed to support the event and will provide formidable opposition.
There are always some very giving and hardworking people behind initiatives such as these, and this is no different.
The entire Dulwich Hill committee should be congratulated for agreeing to and endorsing such a special event in support of a cause that has touched many Australians.
The club’s goalkeeping coach, Trent Sweeney, is the brains trust behind the initiative, and has received able support from 1st Grade coach, Mark Strachan.
Collectively they have been able to execute a list of action items in order to make sure the day is a raging success.
Last season the 1st Grade match produced a match to reflect the carnival atmosphere, with Dulwich Hill and Dunbar Rovers drawing 5-5! Dully actually lead 4-0 at one stage before Dunbar clicked in to gear and gave the huge crowd some real entertainment before the two sides settled for a point apiece.
The 1st Grade match itself kicks off at 7-00pm, and will be a great spectacle if past derbies are anything to go by.
Dulwich Hill have been in great form of late, with four consecutive wins seeing them climb to 5th spot on the competition ladder, boasting the experience of Gosue Sama – of My Kitchen Rules fame – and Ben Vidaic in the front third, big central defender Nathan Bowden-Haase, who himself has nabbed a few goals this year so far, and skipper, Michael Frost, in between the sticks, amongst others.
Fraser Park may be at the wrong end of the table at the moment, but their form of late means they would love nothing more than to get one over their historical rivals in this derby clash. Andrew De Brito leads the team and is a free kick specialist, Michael Guse provides a threat in attack, and goal keeper, Mark Villaescusa, will be doing everything to repel the Dully attack.
So what are you doing on Saturday, May 12th?
