Football NSW’s Under 17 NTC squad ended the 2018 Girls NTC Challenge on a memorable note taking out first place defeating Football Queensland 4-2 in the Final that concluded the four-day football fiesta in Canberra.

Leah Blayney’s squad proved too strong during the group stage defeating Football Victoria, Emerging Jets and Capital Football before beating Football West 1-0 thanks to a Vesna Milivojevic that set up the final against a strong Queensland outfit.

As was the case all week, goals were on the menu for the NSW girls and Blayney’s squad delivered just that with Mary Fowler continuing her impressive form scoring two goals while Taylor Ray and Amy Sayer added to their tally’s.

Blayney was visibly impressed with how her young talented chargers performed during the Girls NTC Challenge.

“It was great to see the girls finish on such a high.

“All week we’ve spoken about sticking together and playing not for me but for the team and today we saw that.

“To trail not once but twice in the game, how this group responded to this challenge demonstrated a good mentality and true grit.

“We maintained our high standards and continued to play good football throughout the NTC Challenge.”

Friday will see a day dedicated to mixed matches as players from all around the country will be put in mixed teams in a bid for selectors to further see and monitor the next batch of future Matildas.

Congratulations to the Girls on a job well done.
