Valentine Sports Park was caught up in Futsal fever as the 2018 Futsal Cup Finals in both the men and women competition’s took shape on Wednesday evening in front of a jam packed grandstand at Football NSW headquarters.

After months of blood, sweat and tears, four teams remained in the hunt in capturing its first piece of Futsal silverware courtesy of the Futsal Cup as presented by Indoor 5’s.

The women’s category saw the Inner West Magic take on UTS Northside and as expected, the game lived up to its high expectations as one of the classics of the year.

It was the Magic who clinched the title but they did it the hard way as UTS took an early lead in the first half via Daisy Arrowsmith.

As the dust settled, the Magic slowly found their groove but left it late, very late.

UTS literally had one hand on the Futsal Cup trophy but Rhianna Pollicina had other ideas equalising in the 31st minute.

The match looked destined for extra-time but Tori Tumeth had other ideas scoring what was to be the winner in the 40th minute that sent the Magic players and their faithful fans into raptures.

The men’s category continued on with the drama that unfolded in the women’s as Campbelltown City Quake took out the Futsal Cup with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Dural Warriors.

Wade Giovenali got the party started for the highly fancied Warriors with the opener in the 5th minute before Quake star Marko Filipovic equalised in the 12th.

Scores were locked at one-a-piece at the break but the Warriors again took the ascendancy with a well taken goal in the 37th minute via Glen Kelshaw.

Like the Women’s Cup Final, drama struck right on 40 minutes as an unfortunate own-goal put the Quake back on level terms right on the buzzer.

This game had it all.

As tense as the match was, it was the underdogs, the Quake that held their nerve during extra time as Harrison Bagot will long remember this night scoring the all important winning goal in the 43rd minute that sunk the hearts of the Warriors players to gift his side the precious Futsal Cup trophy.
