Granville and Districts Soccer and Football Association on the hunt for new players

Granville and Districts Soccer and Football Association (GDSFA) is on the hunt for new players in 2019 as it looks to expand its numbers for the new season.

There is no shortage of opportunities for players looking to take up the world’s most popular game in Western Sydney, with 23 clubs in the Granville area competing in the association in 2019.

And the association will have a powerful ally when it comes to winning the hearts and minds of new players looking to try or perhaps even return to the sport this season, with A-League powerhouse Western Sydney Wanderers partnering up with the GDSFA to help deliver a joint school’s program.

The association and the Wanderers will put on clinics in local primary and secondary schools to give potential players a taste of the sport and a warm introduction to local clubs.

The GDSFA will also be running a number of ALDI MiniRoos Gala Days in partnership with clubs which are in identified growth areas to give local families and their children the chance to learn more about the sport and how they can get involved with the local club.

ALDI MiniRoos is a fun, game-based program aimed at kids aged between four and nine years old, which helps to develop football skills as well as general motor skills.

The association will also be hosting Australia’s oldest cup competition once again with the return of the Cottam Cup.

The Cottam Cup was first played in 1907 and after a brief hiatus returned in 2017 to a grand reception.

The Cup welcomes entrants from all over the state with the final played at Melita Stadium, the historic home of former National Soccer League heavyweights Parramatta FC, and was won in 2018 by Inter Lions from the Canterbury Football Association.

The association has also joined forces with the Blacktown District Soccer Football Association (BDSFA) to run the Phoenix League – a women’s competition which sees clubs from both associations compete against one another.

The GDSFA is one of the oldest and most historic associations in Australian football, and with 22 clubs spread across Western Sydney, there’s sure to be a local club ready to take you and your family in for a year of fun, fitness and friends.

With competitions catering for five year olds right up to the over 35s, there is a competition for players of all ages and abilities, and with the Active Kids Voucher incentive of a $100 rebate to school aged children aged between 5 to 18, football awaits you.
