St George FA stage first ever All-Women’s Coaching Course
St George Football Association recently hosted the first all-female only coaching course which took place at the very new football facility within the area, Ador Reserve in Rockdale.
St George Football Association Technical Director Aytek Genc was pleased with how the first all-female coaching course took shape.
“The aim was to offer a female only course which is fully practical and encourages the coach to develop practices that are based on fun. The emphasis is on natural development i.e. learning by playing football.
“With little to no coaching but organizing fun football exercises is the key to helping players build a love for the game.
“Another highlight of the course is that the coaches are exposed to basic rules of the game as well as tips and hints on building a football culture in a completely practical setting.
“We are determined as an FA to assist all our members in supporting their development through courses and workshops. We intend to follow this experience up through the year to further support their efforts.”
The coaches then became the focus of the evening presenting practices and gaining feedback on how learning takes place and their role in that process.
This included the importance of planning, demonstrations, and the ability to ensure all the players are engaged all of the time.
The course was presented by Football NSW and Sydney FC Championship winning W-League goalkeeper Trudy Burke, who was supported by Oscar Gonzalez, Development Manager of Community Coaches.
Gonzalez highlighted the importance hosting such courses had on the sport.
“We had two key objectives for this course, one was to support our member Football Association with providing a high-quality female presenter, while the second was to support the professional development of one of our coaching staff members.
“In addition, supporting St George with this is vital to ensuring that women remain the key part of the solution to providing greater inclusion and diversity amongst our community coaches.”
Burke was happy to be part of such an event, especially seeing so many positive comments coming from all the participants.
“Having the opportunity to present this course was very satisfying, seeing almost 20 female coaches that will be helping our young players have a better experience attend as well as being able to share my own personal experiences has been very satisfying.”
