APIA Leichhardt Tigers will play host to a special ‘Festival of Football’ this Sunday as their NPL NSW Men’s and NPL 2 NSW Women’s teams will play back to back in what will be a great day of football.

The schedule will see the APIA Leichhardt Tigers’ NPL 2 NSW Women’s outfit tackle Gladesville Ravens in round 1 of their respective competition at 5pm which will then be followed by the top tier Men’s clash between two old rivals as the hosts clash with the Marconi Stallions at 7pm.

APIA Leichhardt Tigers Chairman Jim Apostolovski was looking forward to Sunday, a day which he hopes will encourage the many fans to come down and watch at Lambert Park.

“The club has seen a sharp rise not only in the interest but the talent being showcased in Women’s Football right around the country and our APIA Women’s program is no different.

“The improvement and quality in our program has been clear to see and the ‘Festival of Football’ allows our Women’s to be a curtain raiser to what is, without doubt, one of the glamour fixtures in the Men’s NPL top tier competition namely APIA Leichhardt Tigers facing the Marconi Stallions.

“We have assembled two very strong teams and both have aspirations of winning some silverware.

“The “Festival of Football” gives our entire club an opportunity to watch both teams, something that can’t and won’t be done again this season.

“We are extremely proud of both our Senior teams especially with how far our Women’s program has come and completely 100% support it.”

APIA Leichhardt Tigers senior men’s club legend Franco Parisi was delighted with the club’s push for the double header this Sunday.

“It is always exciting to start the new season and once again our club is leading the way in terms of events and publicity.

“The “Festival of Football” is a great initiative and something here at APIA we embrace.

“The club continually tries to create that sense of inclusion from our youngest teams right through to our Senior teams so I think it’s fantastic to see how far our Women’s program has come.

“I know they are hungry to start the season and have trained extremely hard in the offseason, just like we have.

“It is really exciting for the club to have two strong teams and I’m sure we will both have great seasons.”

APIA Leichhardt Tigers Women’s Captain Lucy Gilfedder echoed Parisi’s thoughts.

“The “Festival of Football” is fantastic for our Women’s team, to be able to play at Lambert before a huge game v Marconi which I’m sure will draw a massive crowd will be great fun.

“APIA is a great club and Ravens are a good side so it will be a great opening game.

“Hopefully, we can get two wins.”
