Hurlstone Park Wanderers kick off Female Football festivities
Canterbury District Soccer Football Association side Hurlstone Park Wanderers hosted a successful Female Football Festival on Sunday 19th of May at Beaman Park in Earlwood.
Over 35 games varying from junior to senior women’s teams took centre stage as the female game was embraced by all who took part within the football mad area.
Canterbury Referees Association also celebrated female involvement by appointing their top female referees to officiate these matches.
Football NSW supported the day with an activity’s precinct giving away free Female Football Week prizes and merchandise which included purple Female Football Week wristbands and headbands. Naturally, this proved popular with the girls and Beaman Park was a sea of purple.
Sydney FC’s Championship winning W-League goalkeeper Trudy Burke also made a player appearance at the event to display her support as well as giving away Sydney FC material.
A powerful event to celebrate female football, particularly in the lead up to the 2019 Women’s World Cup held in France, as well as showcasing the large passion for female football seen in the community as Australia undertakes the bid process to host in 2023.
Female Football Week officially begins on the 25th May until the 2nd June.
