Vince & Val Laws Girls Gala Day celebrated

As Female Football Week draws to an end, Canterbury Junior Football Club continue to build on their previous successes with their third annual Vince & Val Girls Football Gala Day at Croydon Park.

Appropriately, the gala day was named after two life members of Canterbury Junior Football Club Vince and Val Laws.

Both football fanatics who served their football community for over 40 years.

Canterbury Junior football club has ensured their name will remain associated with football for many years to come, through a day dedicated to the importance of female football.

Both Vince and Val were renowned for their commitment to their club and community football.

Holding several committee positions, running the canteen, coaching teams for 33 consecutive years and encouraging players and volunteers along the way.

These were just a few of Vince and Val’s football legacies and commitment to the community game.

The gala day invited over 14 clubs from CDSFA and outside the association with the ultimate aim of maximising as many female games, increasing skill and showcasing exciting games of football from ages 9 to 11.

The day also consisted of other interactive activities such as sprints and penalty shootouts.

The girls had captured the crowd’s attention, which included all their families and friends. The girls showcased their football skills and created a thrilling atmosphere and experience for all the spectators.

Football NSW also supported the event by giving out their famous Female Football Week purple merchandise as well as, providing the ALDI MiniRoos shooting target which is always extremely popular with both kids and adults present.

A unique way of celebrating female football was enjoyed by all and a day that embraced sportsmanship.

A clear success as hundreds of girls inundated the fields and smiles were all around.

Canterbury Junior Football Club ensured nobody left hungry as they provided a fantastic BBQ with their famous Greek Souvlaki on offer.

With plenty of willing volunteers to help support the community female game the day was a resounding success.
