St Pius X College crowned NSW CIS Cup Champions
Over three hundred spectators were treated to some of the best schools football finals at Valentine Sports Park as St Pius X College took out the 2019 NSW CIS Cup Final defeating SEDA College in a thrilling penalty shootout on Wednesday evening.
The state-wide Independent School Cup competition took centre stage at Football NSW headquarters as hundreds of past and present students as well as family and friends flocked Valentine Sports Park and witnessed a blockbuster of a match.
SEDA College, who were taking part in their first ever NSW CIS Cup Final, took the early lead in the third minute of the match as they stamped their authority on the match in the first half leading at the break 1-0.
The second half saw a shift in momentum as the Pius boys grew more into the game and got their just reward in heartbreaking circumstances for SEDA College, scoring an equaliser two minutes from time.
Extra-time saw both teams go at it but no winner was seen which meant the dreaded penalty shootouts were needed to finalise who would be crowned Champions at the end of the evening.
It was St Pius keeper Patrick Moore who claimed school cult status playing a pivotal role in the Steve Quilty coached side’s 4-1 win on penalty shootouts which marked their third Cup victory since 2012.
