Round 3 Preview – Futsal Premier League Open Women’s
2019/20 Open Women’s Futsal Premier League round-three Saturday packs a lot of punch as UTS Northside play soaring Mascot, Inner West face Mountain Majik in a grand-final rematch, Hakoah tackle Boomerangs, and Enfield meet Campbelltown.
UTS Northside v Mascot Vipers PCYC Dee Why 4.50pm Saturday 5 October
Inner West Magic v Mountain Majik Valentine Sports Park 5.20pm Saturday 5 October
Eastern Subs Hakoah v Boomerangs All Sorts Indoor Sports Centre 5.30pm Saturday 5 October
Enfield Allstars v Campbelltown Quake Morris Iemma Sports Centre 6.50pm Saturday 5 October
UTS Northside v Mascot Vipers
UTS Northside host red-hot Mascot Vipers in a crunch match at PCYC Dee Why on Saturday afternoon.
Mascot head Campbelltown on goal-difference to claim first place on the ladder and can further their campaign cause with more of the same – freeflowing attack, goals and stoic defence.
UTS are sure to get a stern test but can take some solace that the overall shouts are shared with six wins apiece and Northside’s Sarah Roger’s six goals edging Viper Mariel Hecher’s five in this encounter.
Only in her third season Hecher needs just two more strikes to equal club great Caitlin Campbell’s 36 goals in Mascot colours, while Natasha Aitken (17) needs four more to leap into third place on the ledger.
Inner West Magic v Mountain Majik
What a cracker of a match Inner West Magic versus Mountain Majik promises to be as last year’s grand-finalists face-off at Valentine Sports Park on Saturday evening.
Inner West found some form in their 5-3 smash-and-grab in the capital last weekend and face a win-less Mountain side eager to atone for some recent Magic facepalms.
The Sydneysiders dominate the head-to-head winning nine of 15 meetings with the Mountaineers (two draws) and claiming a convincing eight of nine encounters at Valentine.
But the fact Magic was Majik’s barrier in the quest for three pieces of silverware last summer – Inner West beating Mountain in last season’s grand final, finishing ahead of them in the premiership race and knocking them out of the Futsal Cup – you’d sense revenge is on the cards.
Majik will have to shackle Magic dynamo Rhianna Pollicina who’s scored 11 goals against them.
Eastern Suburbs Hakoah v Boomerangs
All Sorts Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday evening is the first time Eastern Suburbs Hakoah and Boomerangs have lined up in a senior premier league match.
And while Boomerangs have shown some good character in their first two runs, one can sense Easts are on the boil.
Hakoah are unbeaten in four league contests, are four games unbeaten at All Sorts, and Tamires Souza is displaying ominous form – her three-goal haul after two rounds backing up from a landmark 15 goals last summer to already place her in premier league’s top-30 scorers over the past eight years. She’s only had 16 runs.
Enfield Allstars v Campbelltown Quake
It doesn’t let-up for Enfield Allstars as they prepare to take on Campbelltown Quake at Morris Iemma Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday night.
Enfield stalwart Dominque Caridad will have to dig deep to rally the troops with Campbelltown unbeaten this season and looking to build on their blistering start.
Quake hold the wood over Allstars with a 9-5 win-count in the fixture, but many have been close – six one-goal differences, a 2-2 draw and even a penalty shootout.
