Round 13 saw the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens competition take another huge step to completing the line-up for the top four with some drama left for the final weekend.

Saturday saw four wonderful futsal contests enjoyed and filled with goals.

Let’s get onto the review.

Match of the Round: Raiders Futsal Club 3 defeated South Coast Taipans 1

Raiders Futsal Club took another step closer to the Futsal Premier League 2 finals with a professional 3-1 success against South Coast Taipans Saturday afternoon at Thomas Hassell Anglican College.

The hosts secured their sixth win of the season with goals from Mia Conners, Nicole Ossio and a second half strike from Emma Voloder saw them victorious. Raiders Futsal Club were impressive in their work as they warm up for their Futsal Cup final on Wednesday night.

Taipans took their time to get started and scored off the powerplay through Danika Matos but it was a downbeat effort from the side. Bobby Mazevski will have his side go back to the drawing board in their final league clash to gear up for the finals.

Raiders Futsal Club started off the contest with a bang as within 60 seconds of the whistle reverberating across Thomas Hassell Anglican College, Mia Conners had thrashed the ball into the back of the net for a 1-nil Raiders lead.

From the opening stages, Raiders Futsal Club controlled much of the possession in the first half trying to work their angles and prise open South Coast Taipans. Nicole Ossio tried to double the lead but was wayward with her strike.

Ossio was clinical with her second effort on goal. She snuck in to snatch the ball from a Taipans defender before she bore down on goal and fired home her eighth of the season, making it 2-nil for Raiders Futsal Club.

Taipans were on the backfoot for much of the first stanza – their best opportunities came from Lisa Prior thrashing wide in the 15th minute then a last-minute effort which was saved low and led to a Raiders Futsal effort that was saved ensuring the half ended 2-nil to the hosts.

There were no early fireworks in the second half but Raiders Futsal Club continued to be the dominant side in the contest. Amanda Radmillo swept wide from an error then a Vanessa Ciabatti direct free-kick was gobbled up by the Taipans keeper.

Raiders Futsal Club found a third goal in the 37th minute. Emma Voloder rifled home an effort to make it 3-nil and give the home side a stranglehold on the contest. Taipans responded by going on the powerplay to offer themselves more chances.

It almost brought instant reward when Kya Stewart hammered one against the post with the advantage. Taipans did pull one back through Danika Matos who arrowed home wearing the powerplay shirt to make it 3-1.

Whilst the extra man gave Taipans more thrust going forward, it also left them open in the defensive sense and Raiders Futsal Club had a series of opportunities to bolster their advantage but were unable to find the back of the net. They would take a comfortable win and move a step closer to finals football.

Talking afterwards the Raiders Futsal Club coach was delighted with the result and the form of the side headed into both the finals and their Futsal Cup final on Wednesday night:

“It’s been tough from the beginning for us losing some key players. I think we’re starting to combine now and be where we want to be. We’re going to take that in the final mid-week, the momentum is good for us.” he said.

For Taipans coach Bobby Mazevski there were no excuses for his side’s performance but there is plenty for them to work on headed into the finals after that loss:

“I was disappointed because I expect more from the women’s side. We’ll go back to the drawing board and refine what we do in coming weeks. There is no excuses from us and credit to Raiders Futsal Club who dominated early.” said Mazevski.

SD Raiders Futsal 0 defeated by Dural Warriors 9

The undefeated season took another huge step at Fairfield Youth & Leisure Centre as Dural Warriors triumphed 9-nil against SD Raiders Futsal Saturday afternoon.

It was another star turn for Rachel Perrins. The Golden Boot leader piled in another five goals to take her tally to 28 goals for the season. Emma Hurley scored a brace alongside single goals from Tess Olsen and Imogen Lane rounded off another clinical performance.

Dural Warriors now have one more obstacle to hurdle to confirm their unbeaten season. They take on Sydney City Eagles away next weekend and hope to finish off strong and maintain their stout defensive record in the process.

Phoenix Futsal Club 6 defeated West City Crusaders 0

Phoenix Futsal Club will take the chase for the top four to the final day after putting six past West City Crusaders in a 6-nil result at PCYC Hornsby this weekend.

The home side responded to their loss to Sydney City Eagles last weekend in style with a powerful performance that saw them lead 4-nil at the break. Phoenix Futsal Club added a pair of goals in the second half to move level with Raiders Futsal Club on 19 points.

Sarah Moore continued her fine form with a hat-trick of goals for Phoenix Futsal Club with Molly Reckless and Sarah Holliday both tallied. That was the second goal of the campaign for both alongside an own goal to round off the scoring. Crusaders did have Timika Mcnamara get a red card.

Sydney Futsal Club 6 defeated Sydney City Eagles 2

Finals bound Sydney Futsal Club kept their run going with a comfortable 6-2 result against Sydney City Eagles at All Sorts Indoor Sports Centre on Saturday.

Coming up against one of the tougher contests in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens competition, Sydney Futsal Club were professional in their work against Sydney City Eagles. Tanya Marjanovic was the star of the result with her two goals.

Consistent goal threats Georgia Manos, Jess Meads, Brittany Christie and Nicole Besz all chipped in for the other goals to round off the scoring for Sydney Futsal Club as they get prepared for the upcoming finals gauntlet.

For Sydney City Eagles, they weren’t at the races against their more fancied opponents on Saturday night. They did find goals through Jessica Beale and Alanah Nicholas which gave them some consolation as they aim to finish the season on a high next weekend.
