Stars shine at 2020 Australian Powerchair Football Club Championships

Yet another hugely successful Australian Powerchair Football Association Club Championships concluded at the Quay Centre in Homebush as the Newcastle Jets were crowned Champions with the 2020 tournament coming to an end on Tuesday.

The fifth Club Championships saw eleven teams compete with the likes of Adelaide, Brisbane City, Brisbane Strikers, Central Coast Mariners, Lions FC, Newcastle Jets, North Auckland, Perth Glory, South Melbourne, Sydney FC and Western Sydney Wanderers all going toe to toe in the week-long tournament that kicked off on Thursday 16th of January.

The action and excitement was intense as the cream of the crop settled in Homebush with the crowd witnessing some great matches and players.

Three NSW teams featured international marquee stars with American international Natalie Russo donning the Wanderers strip while English superstar Brad Bates wore the Jets kit and Kiwi international Brennan Massey sported the Sky Blues gear.

Watched on by a passionate set of supporters , the Grand Final saw a quality derby take place as the Jets ran out 5-2 winners over their rivals Central Coast Mariners, etching their names in the history books, as they won its second Club Championships.

Individual honours fell to one player who continually breaks records in the sport of Powerchair Football, namely Australian and NSW star Abdullah Karim. The former 2017 World Cup MVP received awards for Most Goals, Golden Guard and Most Assists while playing for the Perth Glory.
