Around the Grounds @ Blair Park

Blair Park, home of Burwood FC playing under the Canterbury District Soccer Football Association banner is the next facility to get the ‘Around the Grounds’ Football NSW treatment situated in the Inner West of Sydney.

Located in Croydon, the site of Blair Park was originally an estate named Evandale which was built by Captain Henry Fox in 1868.

The facility itself is stacked with facilities including a playground with shade structure, a main pitch with flood lighting, change rooms, public toilets, canteen, storage rooms, dog off-leash area, a drinking fountain and even a cool Bocce court.

The facility itself recently received a welcome upgrade providing better access and new equipment improving active lifestyles within the area.

The $1.3 million Federal Liberal and Nationals Government investment will be utilised by the estimated 120,000 plus thousand citizens  frequenting the facility yearly. This project however would not have gotten the green light if weren’t for the hard work and efforts of the local Burwood Council who worked wonders in  getting this much needed upgrade approved.

Burwood FC are the proud club utilising the venue.

Established in 1971, members of the Croydon community whose children attended Holy Innocents School entered a few teams in the Western Suburbs and District Soccer Football Association competition. They played under the name of their school (Holy Innocents).

One person in particular proved to be instrumental in the club’s early beginnings namely Life Member Brian Thomas who was a founding member and has been involved with the club for many years.

The club made the move to the Canterbury District Soccer Football Association in 1977 and have not looked backed ever since experiencing growth in all age groups, categories as well as a rapid rise in female football registrations.

In terms of players coming through the ranks, the Bosnar brothers Eddie, Milan and Ivo all played their junior football at Burwood FC.

Eddy went on to represent Australia at all youth levels as well as play professionally in Europe and Asia as well as the A-League while his brothers both played at National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s levels.
