Zonjic calls it a day

Bonnyrigg White Eagles will be lining up this weekend for their first match of the 2021 National Premier Leagues 2 NSW Men’s season minus one integral player, club stalwart Nikola Zonjic who has decided to hang up the boots after 300 first grade matches and 20 years of service to his beloved club.

When Zonjic announced that he will hang up his boots and not play in 2021, he was greeted by laughs and the common “it’s not the first time we’ve heard that”, as well as “see you in February Nidzo”.

This time though, the Bonnyrigg legend didn’t return in February and the boots remained hung as he officially retired.

The familiar scene of Zonjic jogging into the ground one minute before the start of training was no more.

After giving it his all for his boyhood club, the one-team-man had to be honoured.

The White Eagles had no other option but to retire the now famous number six jersey Zonjic wore with such passion and joy.

A true inspiration to young White Eagles coming through, Nidzo was definitely one to look up to as he  often popped in to SAP and Youth games.

This Saturday at the Bonnyrigg Sports Ground against St George City, the White Eagles will officially honour their club legend before kick-off at 6pm by retiring the number six.

The club is calling upon everyone that played with or against Zonjic to be there giving the star Bonnyrigg player the proper send off he deserves.
