Chronis dreams about Bulls promotion

In a hotly contested NPL 2 NSW Women’s competition, Northbridge Bulls star striker Evelyn Chronis has been a crucial piece of their promotion campaign alongside Rita Boateng up front this year.

With 11 goals in 10 games, Chronis finds herself sitting third in this year’s golden boot race with Boateng, on 13 goals sitting just above.

However, Chronis was quick to point out the importance of the team’s collective effort.

“I felt really good coming into the season off the back of the W-League season which helped me hit the ground running.

“I’ve been happy with the goals but at the end of the day the team comes first. If Rita is the one putting them in or any of the girls I’m happy. The result at the end of the day is all that matters.”

Prior to lockdown, the season was shaping up to be a five horse race with the Bulls sitting two points off top spot.

We’ve seen in the past how crucial every performance can be in promotion campaigns and for an experienced Chronis, she believes it to be a whole squad effort in their quest for an NPL NSW Women’s top tier ticket.

“We probably started a little slow early on in the season, but after a few changes I feel like we came out of that period really strongly as a team, which started to show of late.

“It’s been a really competitive season so far but when it comes time to play again, the emphasis has to be on the squad as a whole across both the reserves and first grade, maximising our performances and taking as many points as we can each week.”

In a change to the normal pace we’ve seen during lockdown, Chronis says she really relished the break which allowed for rest and recuperation.

With the women’s game being played almost year round across both the NPL and Westfield W-League, it’s refreshing to see an experienced player like Evelyn taking this positive outlook during the enforced break.

“It was definitely a shame that the season stopped when it did. We were starting to put together positive performances, although I have found the importance in giving the body a rest too.

“It’s been my first break in over a year so I’ve really taken a bit of time to recharge the body and take care of myself. I’ve been working from home for quite a while so there was no transition there.

“Now however, I’ve been doing some training and getting the fitness back up so I know I’ll be in a good place once the season resumes.”

As we look forward to what is to come for the rest of the football season, you’d expect a need for teams to come out of the gate fast.

And for Chronis, she believes that picking up from where they left will be of the utmost importance to ensure they maintain their positional standing.

“It will be about picking back up and further building on from where we were before the break.

“There is this big goal of promotion although we need to focus on putting on our best performances week by week.

“If we can come back together and carry on the roll we were on along with taking each game as it comes, we’ll have more than enough as a squad to clinch promotion.”
