Steve Karavatakis will call Bonnyrigg Sports Ground home in 2022 after agreeing to take over the head coaching role at the Football NSW League 1 Men’s side.

A potent goal scorer in his playing days who sewed fear in opposition defences and goalkeepers, ‘Kara’ has the task to return the Bonnyrigg White Eagles to the top tier of men’s football in NSW.

“When I was named as head coach for Bonnyrigg I was very happy and proud knowing the profile of the club with all the history and of course playing against Bonnyrigg knowing that you were going to play against a top team in front of a passionate healthy crowd,” Karavatakis said.

“With Bonnyrigg playing in the Football NSW League 1 Men’s for the last few years, the club’s ambitions are to play at the highest level possible, which will make it more of a challenge, not just to get promoted but to finish as high on the ladder as possible.”

Pleased with the squad he and his coaching staff have assembled, Karavatakis can’t wait to get onto the pitch with his team.

“When I was appointed as coach I knew that there was a good core group of players at the club who would love to help get Bonnyrigg promoted back into the NPL top tier competition,” the new White Eagles head coach said.

“On top of the core players at the club I have signed a few more knowing that they will fit straight into the Bonnyrigg culture of winning.”

Never shy in front of goal himself as he still plays in the Over 45’s with the Hurstville City Minotaurs in the Football St George competition, Karavatakis wants to bring fast-paced attacking football to Bonnyrigg Sports Ground.

“I love scoring goals so attacking football is what we will be playing but at the same time, I love those clean sheets too,” he said.

Karavatakis will be assisted by last season’s interim coach and the experienced Franco Cosentino, with Hugo Da Silva brought into the sports science space as the club’s strength and conditioning coach.

Da Silva arrives with a wealth of experience and knowledge, having previously worked in the UK and with Football NSW League 1 Men’s outfit Spirit FC.
