Strong NSW influence in Futsalroos’ AFF Futsal Championship squad

As many as twelve New South Welshmen out of the fourteen-man Futsalroos squad departed from Sydney today along with coach Miles Downie bound for the 17th AFF Futsal Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand.

Dylan Niski, Mark Brackenrig, Daniel Fornito, Jonno Barzel, Anthony Haddad, Jordan Guerriero, Robbie Ezekiel, Shervin Adeli, Wade Giovenali, Jake Basden, Ahmed Sweedan and Emmanuel Tzanakes will all fly the NSW flag along with Canberra’s Nick Rathjen and Victoria’s Scott Rogan in a bid to get the Futsalroos back on the world map.

Australia have been drawn in Group B of the competition, which will be played at the Huamark Indoor Stadium in Thailand’s capital between April 3 and 12.

In Group B, the green and gold will meet Vietnam, Myanmar, and Timor-Leste, with the top three nations at the competition earning the right to represent ASEAN at the AFC Futsal Championship in Kuwait later in the year.

Group A of the tournament features five nations, with hosts Thailand joined by Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Brunei Darussalam.

Australia will appear at the AFF Futsal Championship for a sixth time in 2022. The Futsalroos finished as Runners Up in 2007, 2013, 2014, and 2015.

Australia will take on East Timor on the 4^th of April then Myanmar on the 5^th finishing up with a group game against Vietnam on the 6^th.
