NSW football clubs to benefit from $3.1 million Legacy Fund investment
Football NSW clubs will be a major beneficiary of more than 100 projects to help improve facilities and run programs to boost participation, as part of the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government’s NSW Football Legacy Fund.
Football NSW CEO John Tsatsimas was delighted about the $3.1 million investment and the significant impact it will have on NSW community football Clubs and Associations.
“Community football facilities are a key priority for our game with infrastructure improvements and upgrades allowing more people of all ages to engage in the largest participated sport actively and safely across NSW,” Mr Tsatsimas said.
“We are excited about the continued rollout of the broader NSW Football Legacy Program ahead of what will be one of the biggest 12 months in Australian football history.”
Football NSW’s Head of Women’s Football, Hayley Todd, spoke of the boost the projects will have on female participation in football.
“These projects will help our Associations and Clubs build their capacity and capabilities to meet the needs of our fast-growing football community,” said Todd.
“As we strive for gender parity in football, we are looking forward to seeing these new programs and facilities in place, helping to champion future generations of female football participants.”
Minister for Sport Alister Henskens said more than $3.1 million will be invested in projects and programs to ensure the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ leaves a lasting legacy for football across the State.
“Having the World Cup on home soil is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will inspire young girls and boys to lace up the boots and emulate their football heroes,” Mr Henskens said.
“With six months to go before the tournament kicks off, there is already an enormous buzz around football and this program will help local clubs capitalise on excitement by running programs that will boost participation in the sport.
“It will also deliver funding to improve infrastructure, creating more modern and accessible facilities for communities across NSW.”
The NSW Football Legacy Fund forms part of the broader Legacy Program, which successfully launched the Daughters and Dads Active and Empowered Football Program in 2022, and has handed out over one hundred female football scholarships to Football NSW participants thus far.
