New Extreme Heat Policy

With temperatures forecast this weekend expected to reach 40°C in parts of Sydney and 41°C in regional NSW, reference should be made to the new Football NSW Extreme Heat policy.

The Football NSW Extreme Heat Policy now includes the new SMA Extreme Heat Policy weblink which gives users access to the current Heat Stress Risk level for the selected sport and location.  The SMA Weblink also provides Key Recommendations and Detailed Suggestions for managing the heat stress risk according to your sport, as well as recommendations for modifying, postponing or cancelling the activity.

When using the SMA Weblink for Football, ensure that you select the correct Sport appropriate to the field surface type:

  • Grass surface or Indoor venue – select “Football (Soccer)
  • Synthetic surface – select “Field Hockey

The FNSW Extreme Heat Policy should be read in conjunction with the use of the SMA Weblink.

Cancellation of games, training or events at lower heat stress risk levels may be necessary due to other factors including local conditions, radiant heat, poor air quality, lack of ventilation in an indoor venue, participant acclimatisation and participant wellbeing.
