Football NSW is pleased to announce Upparel as its Official Textiles Recycling Supplier.

Every 10 minutes, 6,000kg of textile waste is discarded into Australian landfills while on average, Australians purchase 27kg of new textiles and discard 23kg annually.

Upparel is Australia’s and New Zealand’s leading textile recycling company, offering an alternative and circular economy for textiles. Their recycling process covers many solutions, the most common being to tear textiles into a cushion-like fibre material which can be used for multiple purposes, including home insulation, as well as filling for furniture and mattresses.

Football NSW CEO John Tsatsimas was excited to be joining Upparel on their journey.

“Changing official apparel suppliers or updating logos and sponsors often results in sporting clubs accumulating old uniforms which they can no longer use,” he said.

“Football NSW is no exception, and it is pleasing to know that our old uniforms will now be part of Upparel’s process, finding new life for other major industries.”

Upparel is on a trajectory to not only provide leading textile waste disposal solutions but, in future, quality raw recycled materials for major industries.

Founder and CEO of Upparel Michael Elias was looking forward to the partnership with Football NSW.

“With brands, retailers and corporates stepping up and taking responsibility, Australia is beginning to demonstrate true leadership in the textile recycling industry and Football NSW is truly leading this across the sports industry.”
