Female Football Champions: Referees

ffw-profiles-1200x630-1

Throughout 2023 Female Football Week, Football NSW is highlighting the contributions of various members of our football community. Referees Fiona McKenzie and Aaliyah Elzein have been nominated by their local representatives for their service to the game!

Fiona McKenzie – Football Wagga Wagga Referees Branch

“Fiona has changed the lives of countless young referees. She works tirelessly every week to ensure her referees are prepared, ready and equipped with the necessary gear they need.

“Alongside this, she runs the local canteen and referees herself all in the same weekend. She is truly an icon and inspiration to many young female and male referees in the community.”

Aaliyah Elzein – Football St George Referees

Aaliyah is a proud Arncliffe Aurora player and is St George Football Referee Association’s first hijab-wearing referee. 2023 is her second season as a qualified referee. She is mature and has a good head on her shoulders.

“Ever since I was young, I have loved the game and respected referees. I always told myself that one day I will pursue a goal of mine to become a qualified referee.”

Aaliyah is a football fanatic and is a true inspiration. On behalf of Arncliffe Aurora, thank you Aaliyah!
