Round 16 in the Football NSW League One Womens competition was another weekend filled with action, drama and plenty of goals to enjoy for fans.

The top three continue to jostle for their positions while the middle is getting congested.

Our Match of the Round featured Camden Tigers vs Inter Lions.

Match of the Round: Camden Tigers vs Inter Lions

Camden Tigers got back in the winner’s circle with a 5-1 win over Inter Lions at Ron Dine Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers opened the scoring through Ashlee Taff before being pegged back. Merryn Clarke gave them the lead at the break with her volley before a pair of Kristy Rohrer penalties alongside a superb striker from Indiana Hernandez rounded out the scoring.

Inter Lions battled hard but fell to the defeat. They did equalise through Alessia Gangemi in the 17th minute but were unable to heap any more pressure on the Tigers goal in the second half.

The hosts were the first to have a shot at goal. Ashlee Taff found some space and launched one which went right at Inter Lions keeper Grace Gilhawley.

Camden Tigers continued to start on the front foot. Taff and Kristy Rohrer combined for the former to have her second shot at goal.

Inter Lions settled into the contest and had their first chance. Caitlin Webster was dogged to snatch the ball and rattled her effort against the post.

The Tigers got the goal their opening deserved. Taff spotted Gilhawley off her line and looped an effort over the custodian to make it 1-0 after 15 minutes.

Before the celebrations had died down for the locals, Inter Lions equalised. Good work in the box from Alessia Gangemi saw her arrow into the bottom corner for 1-1.

The game settled into the rhythm and chances were at a premium. Santina Wang found space on the left and rocketed an effort over the bar.

Once again it was the Taff and Rohrer connection for Camden. Rohrer laid off for Taff to roll an effort low right into the hands of Gilhawley.

The Tigers took the lead into the break after a spectacular effort. Merryn Clarke volleyed home from a corner to make it 2-1 in the 43rd minute.

Inter Lions had a chance left in the first half to equaliser. Alicia Lee sent in a dangerous cross which Natalie Pajor turned her shot right at Camden Tigers keeper Zarli Lakeman.

Coming out of the break, Camden felt just fine. Goal scorer Clarke won a penalty then Rohrer stepped up to fire home to make it 3-1 in the 47th minute.

There was almost an instant response from Inter Lions again. Substitute Annabel Forbes broke into the box and fired an effort wide of the mark.

Inter Lions rung the changes and almost struck back. Riley Dennis snatched the ball and shot low which forced Lakeman into a superb save.

Indiana Hernandez had a chance to seal the game. She swooped on an errant pass and slid her effort wide of the right post.

She did find the back of the net in the 88th minute. Hernandez unfurled a long range strike which flew into the top corner to make it 4-1 for the Tigers.

There was further joy for the Tigers in stoppage time. They were awarded a second spot kick and once again Rohrer converted for a 5-1 lead in the 92nd minute.

Central Coast Mariners 1 defeated Mt Druitt Town Rangers 0

Leaders Central Coast Mariners left it late in their 1-0 win over Mt Druitt Town Rangers at Pluim Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Mariners have made a habit lately of leaving their results late and were pushed to the brink by a talented Mt Druitt Town Rangers side who were missing Anicka Castaneda. Both sides were unable to find a way through in the first half and went into the break at 0-0.

It looked like the game was drifting towards a draw before Kiera Bainsfair swept home to snatch all three points on the coast. The Town Rangers had their chances with Rita Boateng having the best chance for the visitors.

Nepean FC 4 defeated South East Phoenix FC 2

Nepean FC won a thriller 4-2 over the inform South East Phoenix FC down at Cook Park on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts got back in the winner’s circle and snapped South East Phoenix FC’s recent good run of form which had them winning four games headed into this one. Maria Serrant backed up her positive starting debut with the first goal in the 16th minute.

Tiana-Louise Barton doubled Nepean FC’s lead in the 25th minute before Sarah Kilby pulled one back for South East Phoenix FC in the 35th minute. Nepean FC held their 2-1 until half-time and deep into the second half in front of their home fans.

Nepean FC confirmed the three points with Serrant completing her hat-trick with goals in the 70th and 77th minute. South East Phoenix FC did add a late consolation through youngster April Rowley’s header in a pulsating contest.

Sutherland Shire FA 0 defeated by Blacktown City FC 1

Blacktown City FC picked up a vital three points in their 1-0 win over Sutherland Shire FA at Harrie Denning Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors continued their strong form in the last month and headed back up the highway in good spirits after the result. It was a full team effort from Blacktown City FC with their defence holding firm and some brilliant saves from Kiara Rochaix.

Blacktown City FC’s match winning goal came from Jenny Hughes which made it back-to-back weeks with goals for the Welsh star. Sutherland Shire FA were left frustrated after being wasteful in front of goal.

UNSW FC 4 defeated South Coast Flame FC 1

UNSW FC kept up their form with a 4-1 win over South Coast Flame FC at The Village Green on Sunday afternoon.

The students were back to their perilous best after being blunted last week in the Match of the Round also at The Village Green. Striker Marcella Santos was back to her clinical best with a pair of goals for UNSW FC.

The hosts’ other two goals came from Margaux Montegut and Sonja Murphy in another dominant performance from the title chasing side. South Coast Flame FC did find the back of the net once in the defeat.

SD Raiders FC 1 defeated by Marconi Stallions 2

Marconi Stallions took bragging rights in their 2-1 win over SD Raiders FC at Ernie Smith Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

If anyone was late getting to the game they missed a fantastic start to the contest. SD Raiders FC scored the opener in the third minute through Elin Rosenberg Cemazar before Marconi Stallions equalised in the 5th minute through Yurina Koyama to make it 1-1.

The Stallions winner came in the first half from a set piece. Lucy Berryman who was at left back met a set piece to find the back of the net. There was a late push from SD Raiders FC in the second half for an equaliser but the visitors held on for a valuable three points.

Hills United FC 3 defeated St George FC 0

Hills United FC got a comfortable 3-0 win over St George FC down at Bella Vista Public School on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts responded after their goalless draw last week with a dominant performance with earnt them a valuable three points. Juri Hiragawara scored on the half hour mark for Hills United FC to give them a 1-0 lead going into the break.

They added a pair of goals in the second half to complete the scoring and solidify their spot in the League One Womens top three. Isabella Sciberras doubled their delight before substitute Kaylie Shannon fired home her first goal of the season to round it off.
