League-ONE-Round-Preview-Womens-17

Round 17 in the Football NSW League One Womens competition serves up another wonderful weekend of football action to enjoy across the state.

Seven games will see teams trying to jostle up the ladder and the round is headlined by South East Phoenix FC and Sutherland Shire FA in the Match of the Round.

Let’s get onto the preview.

Match of the Round: South East Phoenix FC vs Sutherland Shire FA, Sunday 2 July, 3:15pm, South Nowra Football Complex

The Match of Round sees South East Phoenix FC take on Sutherland Shire FA at South Nowra Football Complex on Sunday afternoon.

South East Phoenix FC had their four-game winning streak snapped by Nepean FC in their game at Cook Park last weekend.

After their slow start to the season, South East Phoenix FC have rounded into a good team and will be tough to beat especially at home.

They have plenty of talent in the squad including youngster April Rowney who has a knack of scoring goals in recent weeks.

Sutherland Shire FA suffered their third straight loss when they lost 1-0 to Blacktown City FC last weekend.

The visitors have flourished in front of the NPL.TV cameras with a win and draw so they will be primed to take three points home on Sunday.

They will look to their strikers to get them that result on Sunday. Violet Keelan and Tahli Fowler will be keen to find the back of the net.

This game will be streamed live on NPL.TV and will have Steven Poletti behind the microphone for what will be an intriguing contest.

South Coast Flame FC vs Camden Tigers, Saturday 1 July, 7;30pm, Sir Ian McLennan Park

South Coast Flame FC kick off the weekend against Camden Tigers down at Sir Ian McLennan Park on Saturday night.

The Flame missed a chance to move into the top four after their loss to the unbeaten UNSW FC last weekend at Village Green.

Lulu Lozano was their goal scorer in the loss and a vital part of the South Coast Flame FC side who look to get into the top four.

Camden Tigers featured in the Match of the Round and took home three points in their game against Inter Lions.

The combination between Ashlee Taff and Kristy Rohrer was lethal for the Tigers in the win and will look to repeat the dose on the south coast.

It was the first win under coach Peter Tsembelis against Inter Lions and they will be keen to make it a second for him on the weekend.

St George FC vs UNSW FC, Sunday 2 July, 3pm, Ilinden Sports Centre

St George FC face off against the high-flying UNSW FC down at Ilinden Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints were beaten by Hills United FC in their game last weekend which broke their recent good run of results.

St George FC will be keen to get back in the winner’s circle and hold firm to fourth spot on the League One Womens ladder in this game.

The hosts will rely on their defence helmed by captain Maddison Farmer to hold out the potent UNSW FC attack on Sunday.

UNSW FC remained unbeaten with their comfortable win against South Coast Flame FC at The Village Green last weekend.

The students are one point behind Central Coast Mariners and they will want to keep up the pressure on them with another three points.

Striker Marcella Santos bagged two goals in their win taking her tally to nine for the season and will be hungry to get to double digits on Sunday.

Inter Lions vs Central Coast Mariners, Sunday 2 July, 3pm, Majors Bay Reserve

Inter Lions welcome league leaders Central Coast Mariners to Majors Bay Reserve for their game on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions featured in the Match of the Round last week where they were well beaten by Camden Tigers.

Central Coast Mariners left it late but won their 14th game of the season against Mt Druitt Town Rangers at Pluim Park.

Dan Barrett’s side has a never-say-die attitude and it bodes well for them in the second half of the season as they chase the Premiership.

They have a potent strike partnership in Chloe Smith and Kaitlin Murphy who will be keen to find the back of the net on Sunday.

SD Raiders FC vs Mt Druitt Town Rangers, Sunday 2 July, 3pm, Ernie Smith Reserve

SD Raiders FC face off against the surging Mt Druitt Town Rangers at Ernie Smith Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts had a fast start before they fell away against Marconi Stallions in their derby game last weekend.

It was a welcome return to the scoresheet for Elin Rosenberg Cemazar who is SD Raiders FC’s top scorer and hopes to find the back of the net again.

SD Raiders FC took the spoils last time these two met in Round 4 and they will want to repeat that dose back at home this weekend.

Mt Druitt Town Rangers held off Central Coast Mariners for a majority of the contest before they conceded a late goal in their loss.

They showed in that performance an ability to match up with the competition heavyweights and look to build on it to move into the top four.

Rita Boateng has been a key contributor for Mt Druitt Town Rangers and will look to add to her goal tally on Sunday afternoon.

Marconi Stallions vs Nepean FC, Sunday 2 July, 3pm, Wanderers Football Park

Marconi Stallions face off against Nepean FC down at Wanderers Football Park in their game on Sunday afternoon.

The Stallions broke their recent poor form with a win over SD Raiders FC in their travels to Ernie Smith Reserve last weekend.

Their win was built on their experienced defence in Samantha Huynh and Emma Voloder who were rock solid at the back and will be tough to break down.

Up top, the work of Yurina Koyama and Kyra Cabrera will be vital to Marconi Stallions taking three points against a strong Nepean FC side.

Nepean FC rebounded from their loss in Round 15 with a solid win over South East Phoenix FC at their ground Cook Park.

Maria Serrant has started with a bang with three goals in her three appearances for Nepean FC and look to add to her tally on Sunday.

Ben Gough has done good work with this Nepean FC squad and they sit in seventh and look to make a run towards the top four.

Blacktown City FC vs Hills United FC, Sunday 2 July, 4pm, Landen Stadium

Rounding off the weekend is Blacktown City FC taking on Hills United FC at Landen Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Blacktown City FC got back in the winner’s circle with their win over Sutherland Shire FA at Harrie Denning Centre last weekend.

Goals have been hard to come by for Blacktown City FC but Jenny Hughes has scored in back-to-back games and looks to make it three on the spin.

Hills United FC put together a comfortable performance in their win over St George FC at Bella Vista Public School.

The performance would have pleased coach Alan Tasses after a back-to-back draws and hopefully see them keep the pressure up on the top two.

They have League One Womens best defence led by captain and custodian Sarah Easthope which makes them a tough team to beat.
