Les Scheinflug named Coaching Conference Guest of Honour

Guest of Honour 1200x630 LES

Football NSW are proud to announce Australian Football Hall Of Fame Member Les Scheinflug as the 2023 Football NSW Coaching Conference Guest of Honour.

Born in Germany in 1938, Les Scheinflug migrated to Australia in 1955 where he joined the Villawood Tigers and was also selected to play in the Southern Districts representative side.

“The Boss” as he is affectionately known to everyone, then joined Sydney Prague where he spent 12 seasons, seven of which as club captain. He also played for Marconi and Canterbury Marrickville and represented the state at senior level.

His club performances caught the attention of the Socceroos where he made 11 appearances scoring four goals for the Green and Gold – he also had the honour of captaining the side on numerous occasions.

Upon retirement from playing Scheinflug took up coaching. He took charge of several clubs including the Marconi Stallions, Canterbury Marrickville, South Coast United, Sydney Croatia, Western Suburbs, Blacktown City and Sydney Olympic to name a few.

The Boss held a number of honours such as being named 1979 NSL Coach of the Year with the Marconi Stallions where his coaching expertise took a step further as he was appointed as Socceroos assistant coach to Rale Rasic, Rudi Gutendorf and Eddie Thomson, and then became national coach from 1981 to 1984.

Schienflug was also the national Under-20 and Under-17 coach, famously taking the Joeys (U17) to the Final of the 1997 FIFA U-17 World Championships, losing to Brazil on penalties.

He was further acknowledged in 2000 when he was awarded an AM for his services to football as a national player and coach.

Les will be honoured in the opening ceremony of the 2023 Coaching Conference on Saturday 11th November.

The 2023 Football NSW Coaching Conference will be held at Valentine Sports Park on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th November. The two-day event, hosted by well-known football personality Stephanie Brantz, will see keynote presentations given by international and domestic special guests, with a raft of experience across all levels of the game.

Coaches will once again have the opportunity to sculpt their own learning journey through a series of theory and practical break-out sessions allowing you to choose topics most relevant to your specific interests.

Football NSW are also pleased to confirm that ticket prices for the event will be frozen and remain the same from the 2019 conference as a commitment to coaches having access to professional development opportunities.

Coaches can purchase a one-day attendee pass (25 CPD Points) or a two-day weekend pass (50 CPD Points).

Full attendance at each day earns participants 25 points per day towards FA/AFC Diploma reaccreditation as per the AFC Coaching Convention.
