It was a huge weekend in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Womens competition which saw Round 12 and 13 completed across Saturday and Sunday. The seven matches helped to lock in the top four before the final weekend. Let’s get onto the reviews.

Round 12

Match of the Round: APIA FC Futsal 4 defeated West City Crusaders 1

APIA FC Futsal won 4-1 against West City Crusaders down at Valentine Sports Park on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts have recorded three wins on the bounce and locked in their finals spot. Taiana Almeida Silva and Maya Abidin found the back of the net in the first while Zoe Zaczek was on target in the second half alongside an own goal.

West City Crusaders battled hard but weren’t able to find much joy in this contest. Their lone goal came from Paris Vinuya in the first half. They now move onto their final game of the regular season to end on a high.

Both APIA FC Futsal and West City Crusaders strode onto the pitch at Valentine Sports Park aiming to take home three points.

The hosts were the first to have a chance through Taiana Almeida Silva. She led the counterattack before she fed Maya Abidin who shot wide.

APIA FC Futsal took their next chance to make it 1-0. Silva weaved past the defence and Crusaders keeper before she rolled into the net in the 6th minute.

It was double delight for APIA FC Futsal in the 10th minute. Abidin was able to sneak a near post shot into the net for 2-0.

The Crusaders did pull a goal back before half-time. Paris Vinuya held off a defender before she arrowed a shot into the bottom corner for 2-1 in the 15th minute.

Both sides pushed forward for another goal but they went into the sheds at half-time with APIA FC Futsal holding a one-goal advantage.

APIA FC Futsal looked to add to their advantage through Beth Crawford. She strode forward then hit the post with a shot.

They continued to pile up the chances in the game. Alyssa Thomson and Claudia Pickett had efforts with the latter hitting the crossbar.

Silva went close to scoring her second in the 35th minute. She was able to find some space then rattled the post with her shot.

APIA FC Futsal did make it 3-1 in the 34th minute. Zoe Zaczek rolled past the defence and found the back of the net.

They made it 4-1 a minute later. Zaczek was again involved in the action and her shot deflected off a defender into the net.

APIA FC Futsal looked to put icing on the victory cake. Both Crawford and Silva hit the woodwork in the late stages, but it remained 4-1.

Sydney Futsal Club 9 defeated Phoenix Futsal Club 3

Sydney Futsal Club were 9-3 winners against Phoenix Futsal Club down at NC of Indigenous Excellence on Saturday afternoon.

It was a good win for Sydney Futsal Club to get back in the winner’s circle. Leila Szszepanik opened the scoring in the 5th minute for 1-0 before Ashley Limnios equalised for Phoenix Futsal Club. Annalise Schiraldi fired the hosts back into the lead in the 16th minute and gave them a 2-1 lead at the break.

The start of the second half continued to be a back-and-forth affair. Szszepanik scored to make it 3-1 before once again Limnios pulled one back. Mia Nataly, Schiraldi, Zoe Henderson and Cynthina Coghlan extended Sydney Futsal Club’s lead to 7-2.

Limnios had a solid afternoon despite being on the losing side with a hat-trick to make it 7-3 in the 36th minute. Charlotte Heath and Henderson both found the back of the net for Sydney Futsal Club to round out the score line.

Sydney City Eagles 4 defeated Raiders Futsal Club 3

Sydney City Eagles ran out 4-3 winners against Raiders Futsal Club at Morris Iemma Indoor SC on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles got back in the winner’s circle and got their fifth win of the season. They did all their damage in the first half with Alessia Perre scored twice to make it 2-0 quickly followed by an own goal. Raiders Futsal Club pulled a goal back through Alyssa Clark in the 18th minute.

Raiders Futsal Club had the best possible start to the second half when Nicole Ossio brought it back to 3-2 in the 23rd minute. Sofia Sollecito restored the Eagles two-goal advantage in the 26th minute before Ossio added her second goal late to round it off.

SD Raiders Futsal 1 defeated by South Coast Taipans 8

Leaders South Coast Taipans won 8-1 against SD Raiders Futsal at Thomas Hassall Anglican College on Saturday afternoon.

The Taipans moved closer to the title with their win and won their eighth game in a row. It was a five-star first half from the visitors. Bronte Pyke scored the first three goals of the game followed by Sofia Kent and Lulu Lozano to make it 5-0 at the break.

Lozano got the party started in the second half with her second goal in the 27th minute to hit SD Raiders Futsal for six. Bronte Trew found the back of the net to make it 8-1 then Jessica Neville got the hosts on the board late in the game.

Round 13

Match of the Round: Raiders Futsal Club 0 defeated by South Coast Taipans 2

South Coast Taipans were 2-0 winners against Raiders Futsal Club at Thomas Hassall Anglican College on Sunday afternoon.

The result confirms the title for South Coast Taipans as the good times continue to roll for the club in the 2023 season. The goals came either side of half-time through Nicole Besz and Bronte Trew in their ninth win on the spin.

Raiders Futsal Club tried their best but weren’t able to find a way past the dogged defence of the Taipans in this game. Their best chances fell to Mackenzye Abreu and Gemma Bartolillo in the defeat which ends their hopes of finals football.

Raiders Futsal Club and South Coast Taipans entered the pitch at Thomas Hassall Anglican College in search of three points.

The first chance of the game fell to Raiders Futsal Club. It was a combination which ended with Nicole Ossio hitting the post.

Raiders Futsal Club continued the pressure on the Taipans. Mackenzye Abreu wriggled past her defender and hit the base of the post.

South Coast Taipans started to get into their rhythm. Bronte Trew had a shot quickly followed by Bronte Pyke shooting straight.

The Taipans tried to break the deadlock again through Trew. She strode forward and her effort was saved well by Raiders Futsal Club keeper Jasmine Crouch.

They piled on the pressure in a tight first half. Lulu Lozano shot straight then Ashley Kotevski was denied by another sprawling save from Crouch.

Taipans found the opener in the 19th minute. Nicole Besz found space on the right and she rocketed an effort into the bottom corner for 1-0.

The second half started in fast fashion between the two sides. Both of them had shots which weren’t troubling either keeper.

It was going to take a huge effort to get past Crouch again but Taipans found a way three minutes into the second half.

The Taipans fired two shots on target which were turned away before Trew was able to sweep the ball into the net for 2-0.

Raiders Futsal Club looked to respond quickly. Gemma Bartolillo was in the thick of the action and fizzed an effort over the bar.

They pushed forward again to cut into the deficit and set up a grandstand finish. Bartolillo unfurled a free-kick which went wide.

Taipans went close to adding a third in the 29th minute. Trew was found with a delightful pass but sent it over the bar.

Raiders Futsal Club ended the game with a flurry of chances to get on the board. Bartolillo was turned away again then Rebecca Norman had an effort.

South Coast Taipans looked to end on a high note but Lozano hit the post with a thunderous effort that bounced away.

Sydney Futsal Club 1 defeated by Sydney City Eagles 3

Sydney City Eagles won 3-1 against Sydney Futsal Club at NC of Indigenous Excellence on Sunday afternoon.

The Eagles pick up three points and cement their spot in the FPL2 Open Womens top four. They flew out to a strong start with Alessia Perre scoring in the first minute. Leila Szszepanik equalised for the hosts before Jamaica Marshall restored the Eagles advantage in the 15th minute.

It was another fast start for the Eagles in the second half. Kelsea Nash made it 3-1 in the 21st minute for her 13th goal of the season. They were able to hold on for the win and won their sixth game of the campaign.

West City Crusaders 6 defeated SD Raiders Futsal 5

Rounding out the weekend is West City Crusaders winning 6-5 against SD Raiders Futsal at PCYC Hawkesbury on Sunday afternoon.

The Crusaders won their second game of the season in a thriller and puts an end to SD Raiders Futsal’s finals chances. The hosts led 4-1 at the break after Emily Fenn, Courtney Franks and Paris Vinuya twice found the back of the net while Elana Topalidis scored for SD Raiders Futsal.

Vinuya scored her second to make it 5-1 before SD Raiders Futsal stormed back. Georgia Bromfield and Tayla Garifalakis made it 5-3 then Bromfield made it a brace followed by Dione King completing the comeback for 5-5. Vinuya completed her hat-trick in style with the winner in the 39th minute.
