League ONE Womens Review Round 2

Round 2 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition saw a weekend where the goals flew into the back of the net with 41 goals scored across the weekend.

We had seven matches which were complete across Saturday and Sunday headlined by Central Coast Mariners hosting Blacktown City FC in the Match of the Round.

Let’s get onto the review.

Match of the Round: Central Coast Mariners 5 defeated Blacktown City FC 1

Central Coast Mariners won 5-1 against Blacktown City FC down at Pluim Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Mariners were in fine form in a five-star performance taking three points. Claire Denning and Maya Lobo scored in the first half for a 2-0 lead. Annalise Brewster, Annalise Rasmussen and substitute Andie Chaseling rounded out the win.

Blacktown City FC battled hard despite the defeat in this game. They had some early chances from set pieces but did pull one back through Jenny Hughes in the 72nd minute to give them a shot at a comeback.

Both Central Coast Mariners and Blacktown City FC walked onto Pluim Park looking to build on their first up wins on Sunday.

It was a tight opening between these two sides with them sizing each other up in the opening ten minutes of the game.

The first chance of the game fell to the Mariners. Annalise Rasmussen found some space and sent a shot right into the arms of Blacktown City FC keeper Amy Harkin.

Blacktown City FC found their rhythm quickly and their best efforts came from the set piece. They had a pair of free-kicks which didn’t trouble Mariners keeper Chloe Carmichael.

Ava-Marie Carlson had the next chance for Central Coast. The speedster cut inside her defender and curled her shot over.

Central Coast Mariners found the opener in the 22nd minute. Rasmussen threaded through a pass for Claire Denning to poke home for 1-0.

The visitors had a prime opportunity to find an equalizer after the half hour mark. Olivia Moar stepped in to get the ball but chipped her effort wide.

The Mariners doubled their delight in the 44th minute. Rasmussen swung in a corner which fell to Maya Lobo to thrash home for 2-0.

Central Coast almost had the perfect start to the second. Denning snatched a pass then forced Harkin to tip it over.

They did get a third goal in the 54th minute. Mariners recycled possession well and Annalise Brewster placed the ball into the corner for 3-0.

Blacktown City FC had a chance to pull one back through Amelia Savetta. She broke the line well but scooped the ball over the bar.

The visitors did get one back in the 72nd minute. Ainsley Byrne hooked a cross in which Jenny Hughes turned home to make it 3-1.

The Mariners made it 4-1 in the 82nd minute. Rasmussen and Eliza Familton exchanged passes inside the box before the former rolled home.

Blacktown City FC fought until the final whistle. Substitute Eloise Hansen stung the palms of substitute keeper Kyara O’Brien late in the contest.

Central Coast Mariners topped off the win with a fifth goal. Substitute Andie Chaseling swooped on the ball to make it 5-1 in the 91st minute.

South Coast Flame FC 2 defeated by Marconi Stallions 3

Marconi Stallions won 3-2 in a thrilling game against South Coast Flame FC at Sir Ian McLennan Park on Saturday night.

The Stallions dug deep to get their first points of the season in what is usually a tough venue for away teams. Cristina Barraza opened the scoring for Flame in the 7th minute before Charmaine Marquinez equalized for the Stallions in the 27th minute for 1-1.

The game took a turn late in the first half when Kellie McIntyre was given a red card for her second booking in quick succession. The Stallions took until after half-time to take advantage of the extra player when Angelique Skapetis fired home in the 51st minute.

South Coast Flame FC showed resilience after making it 2-2 through Emily Kostovski in the 53rd minute which set up a fantastic finish. Marconi secured all three points through Erinn Cleghorn’s goal in the 65th minute for a happy trip back up the highway.

St George FC 3 defeated Camden Tigers FC 2

St George FC battled hard to a 3-2 win over Camden Tigers in their game at Ilinden Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints picked up their first win of the campaign, but they were made to work for the points by a dogged Camden Tigers side. Kyla Vanderlaan handed the hosts the lead in the 42nd minute before Lisa Fressard equalized for the Tigers in first half stoppage time for 1-1.

It looked like the first shock result of the season was on the cards after Camden Tigers took the 2-1 lead on the hour mark through Tia Berg. Jaslyn Moore was the hero for St George FC with a quickfire brace in the 64th and 65th minute to give them the win.

Nepean FC 0 defeated by Bankstown City FC 8

Bankstown City FC won 8-0 against Nepean FC in their game down at Cook Park on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors made it back-to-back wins in a superb start to the season which has seen them score 19 goals in two games. Roukayeh Al Farajeh opened the scoring for 1-0 followed by Liana Danaskos and Aya Seino for a 3-0 Lions lead at the break.

In the second half, it was the Seino show again. She made it 4-0 from the spot in the 58th minute followed by a late flurry of goals which takes her to ten for the season. Seino scored in the 73rd, 77th and 80th minute in the one-sided contest.

Inter Lions FC 0 defeated by Hills United FC 5

Hills United FC won 5-0 against Inter Lions FC down at Majors Bay Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

That result makes it back-to-back wins for Hills United FC who have had another strong start to a League One Women’s season. Bella Donaldson found the back of the net in the 18th minute for 1-0 then Alix Roberts doubled their delight in the 27th minute.

It was a tighter second half as Inter Lions dug deep to get something from the game. Kaylie Shannon made it 3-0 in the 73rd minute then late goals from Aisling Davidson and Ashleigh Heuston-Richardson made it 5-0.

South East Phoenix FC 0 defeated by SD Raiders FC 7

SD Raiders FC took three points back up the highway after their 7-0 win against South East Phoenix FC at South Nowra Football Complex on Sunday afternoon.

The result for the visitors means they join the host of teams which have won back-to-back games to open the 2024 League One Women’s season. SD Raiders FC were ruthless in finding the back of the net.

Abuk Nyor scored the first two goals of the game in the 12th and 36th minute before Taiana Almeida fired home twice herself for a 4-0 lead. SD Raiders FC were cruising towards three points.

SD Raiders FC added three goals in in the second half for the 7-0 scoreline. Amanda Radmillo made it 5-0 in the 69th minute then Abigail Boag added the sixth in the 73rd minute before substitute Olga Gasteratos finished off the scoring in the 84th minute.

Sutherland Strikers FC 0 defeated by Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC 5

Mt Druitt Town Rangers were 5-0 winners against Sutherland Strikers FC at Kareela Oval #3 on Sunday afternoon.

They followed up their big Match of the Round win last week with another dominant performance this time away from home. Sheiden Jabour made it 1-0 in the 6th minute then Tiarne Flavin and Leena Khamis scored in the 41st and 42nd minute to make it 3-0 at the break.

The Town Rangers kept pushing forward in the second half. Khamis scored her third goal in the campaign to make it 4-0 in the 49th minute then livewire forward Rita Boateng added the fifth in the 55th minute to round it off.
