League ONE Womens Review Round 3

Round 3 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition was another stellar edition which saw plenty of excitement across Sunday.

There were seven games to run the rule over highlighted by the Match of the Round between Bankstown City Lions FC and Marconi Stallions FC.

Let’s get onto the review.

Match of the Round: Bankstown City Lions FC 7 defeated Marconi Stallions 1

Bankstown City Lions FC won 7-1 against Marconi Stallions down at Jensen Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Lions continued their perfect start to the season with a win coach Ante Covic called their best thus far. Aya Seino scored five goals in the first 28 minutes then Liana Danaskos and Roukayah Al Fararjeh tallied in the second half for the 7-1 win.

Marconi Stallions were blown away in the opening stages but battled back with a goal before half-time. Erinn Cleghorn scored in the 38th minute to make it 5-1 as the Stallions look to gel this season.

Bankstown City Lions FC and Marconi Stallions FC strode onto Jensen Park looking to end the weekend with three points.

The hosts were on the front foot early in the game. Bankstown City Lions FC made it 1-0 in the 7th minute through Aya Seino for her 10th of the season.

Quickly, it was double delight for Seino. She broke the offside trap and slotted home to make it 2-0 in the 12th minute.

Bankstown City Lions pushed forward again from a set piece. Miriam Mostaghimi thumped a header wide from a corner.

Seino completed her hat-trick in 17th minute. Once again, she was played through and nestled the ball into the corner of the net for 3-0.

Bankstown City Lions FC made it 4-0 from Seino again. She weaved past the Stallions keeper and rolled the ball into the net in the 24th minute.

Her fifth goal came in the 28th minute. It was a precise pass from Zoe Zaczek which found Seino’s head and looped into the net for 5-0.

Bankstown City Lions FC winger Angelina Mastoris drove forward into the box and blazed her effort over the bar.

The Stallions pulled a goal back before half-time. Erinn Cleghorn cut inside her defender and fired into the top corner for 5-1.

They looked to get another goal before the break. Marie Herrera stood over the free-kick and forced Lions keeper Jasmin Lawler into a save.

After the break, Bankstown City FC made it 6-1 in the 53rd minute. It was a well timed effort from captain Liana Danaskos which flew into the net.

They made it 7-1 in the 53rd minute through Roukayah Al Fararjeh. She was able to get to the ball first then chipped the ball into the net.

There was a chance for Seino to score a sixth goal. She stepped up to take a penalty after a foul in the box but was denied by a superb save from Stallions keeper Danielle Grealey.

The Lions rung the changes but continued to pile forward and add further to their impressive goal difference but were denied.

Substitute Jasmine Stretton almost added an eighth late but her shot was pushed onto the post by Greaney.

Post match, Bankstown City Lions FC coach Ante Covic reflected on the result and their third win of the season:

“It was our best performance thus far. That first half an hour was the best footballer I’ve seen these girls play and they controlled the game. We just pipped them at every position and it was a dominant performance.” said Covic.

Camden Tigers FC 2 defeated Nepean FC 0

Camden Tigers won 2-0 in their game against Nepean FC down at Ron Dine Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers picked up their first win of the season with a confident performance against a dogged Nepean FC defence. They were made to work for the points as the two teams cancelled each other out and went into the break at 0-0.

Camden Tigers started the second half with a bang with two goals in the opening ten minutes to put the game to bed. Indianna Hernandez made it 1-0 then Lisa Fressard doubled their delight to make it 2-0 in the 54th minute.

Inter Lions FC 1 defeated by St George FC 3

St George FC were 3-1 winners over Inter Lions at Majors Bay Reserve in their game on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints have recorded back-to-back wins with a comfortable win against a dogged Inter Lions side. The visitors opened the scoring late in the first half through Kyla Vanderlaan to lead 1-0 going into the sheds.

Inter Lions were stronger after the break and levelled the game in the 64th minute through Alicia Lee for 1-1. The Saints were able to wrestle back control and won the game 3-1 after a pair of goals from Jordan Baker in the 78th and 92nd minute.

Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC 1 defeated by Central Coast Mariners FC 2

Central Coast Mariners triumphed 2-1 in a pulsating game against Mt Druitt Town Rangers at Popondetta Park on Sunday afternoon.

The yellow-and-navy took their winning streak to three games to open the season and set a good platform for a finals appearance. Eliza Familton made it 1-0 for the Mariners in the 35th minute as the visitors took the lead into the break.

The second half was a rollercoaster between the two contending sides. Mariners were reduced to ten when Jessica Garrett was shown a red card. The Town Rangers equalized through Leena Khamis for 1-1 in the 81st minute from the spot.

There was one final twist left in this exciting encounter. Central Coast Mariners dug deep and won the game in injury time. Sophie Nenadovic caught the keeper off her line and earned Mariners three points in the 92nd minute.

SD Raiders FC 1 drew with South Coast Flame FC 1

Points were shared between SD Raiders FC and South Coast Flame FC in their 1-1 draw at Cirillo Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

It was a tight tussle between two sides that have their expectations set high in 2024 and they played out the first draw of the season. SD Raiders FC came out of the blocks firing and Abuk Nyor gave them the 1-0 lead in the 7th minute which they took into half-time.

The Flame pushed forward in search of an equalizer and found it late in the contest through Cristina Barraza. It was the attackers fourth goal of the League One Women’s season which earnt them a point.

Hills United FC 3 defeated Sutherland Strikers FC 0

Hills United FC were 3-0 winners against Sutherland Strikers FC in their game at Bella Vista Public School on Sunday afternoon.

They remain one of three unbeaten teams in the League One Women’s competition after another clean sheet at Fortress Bella Vista. Hills United FC had to dig deep against a committed Sutherland Strikers side that held them to 0-0 at the break.

Isabella Sciberras broke the deadlock for Hills United FC from the spot to make it 1-0 in the 53rd minute. Bella Donaldson made it 2-0 in the 70th minute with her second of the season then defender Aisling Davidson rounded off the win in the 74th minute for 3-0.

Blacktown City FC 3 defeated South East Phoenix FC 0

Blacktown City FC won 3-0 against South East Phoenix FC down at Landen Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts bounced back in style and got their second win of the League One Women’s campaign on their home ground. Blacktown City FC also have brought in Matt Constantini to be Technical Director in the last week.

New signing Eloise Hansen opened the scoring in the 24th minute before Jenny Hughes gave Blacktown City FC with her second goal this season. Hansen picked up a brace with her 87th minute strike for 3-0.
