League ONE Womens Preview Round 12

Round 12 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition sees us hurtle quickly towards the midway point of the season. The seven games listed for the weekend is the chance for sides to figure out how they are traveling headed towards that point. The Match of the Round is South Coast Flame FC hosting Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC. Let’s get onto the preview.

Match of the Round: South Coast Flame FC vs Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC, Sunday 19 May, 3:15pm, Sir Ian McLennan Park

South Coast Flame FC host Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC down at Sir Ian McLennan Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Flame battled hard in their 3-1 loss to St George FC in the Round 11 night cap last weekend at home.

Sariah Wilson brought them level in the first half with her goal and she will look to add to her three goals for the season.

The loss last weekend put a dent in the Flame’s top four hopes but they have another chance at a big scalp against the second place Town Rangers.

Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC featured in the Match of the Round, beating Blacktown City FC 3-0 at Popondetta Park.

Rita Boateng underlined her importance to the Town Rangers front three with a pair of goals in the win last week.

Both Tiarne Flavin and Peyton Crye have been unsung heroes on the defensive side for the visitors who have been stout in recent weeks.

Marconi Stallions FC vs Inter Lions FC, Sunday 19 May, 3pm, Marconi Stadium

Marconi Stallions face off against Inter Lion FC in their game at Marconi Stadiums on Sunday afternoon.

The Stallions took the biggest scalp of the season in their 1-0 win over previously unbeaten Hills United FC last weekend.

Julia Figueira was one of the heroes in the win with the only goal and the Stallions hope this might kickstart their season.

The Stallions will be without Daniela Brekic after her red card but the side has shown they can dig deep in recent weeks.

Inter Lions FC banked another point in a tight tussle which ended 0-0 against Nepean FC on their home turf.

The Lions hope their first clean sheet of the League One Women’s season can help inspire them forward on Sunday.

Caitlin Webster came off the bench to feature for the first time this season and she could be a spark for Inter Lions to find the back of the net.

St George FC vs Blacktown City FC, Sunday 19 May, 3pm, Ilinden Sports Centre

St George FC take on Blacktown City FC in their game down at Ilinden Sports Centre on Sunday afternoon.

The Saints recorded their second straight win in their 3-1 result against South Coast Flame FC last Sunday night.

Morgan Maxwell found the back of the net in the win and has added another option up front for St George FC.

St George FC brought in Tayla Cvetkovski over from Sydney University SFC to bolster their charge into the second half of the season.

Blacktown City FC were beaten 3-0 in the Match of the Round against Mt Druitt Town Rangers last weekend.

Despite the loss, it was an encouraging debut for experienced duo Angelina Mastoris and Zoe Zaczek for Blacktown City FC.

They also face a big challenge in the Sapphire Cup hosting NPLNSW Women’s leaders Manly United FC on Wednesday night.

Nepean FC vs Central Coast Mariners FC, Sunday 19 May, 3pm, Cook Park

Nepean FC host Central Coast Mariners in an intriguing game at Cook Park on Sunday afternoon.

The visitors played out a stalemate against Inter Lions FC in their game at Majors Bay Reserve last weekend.

Nepean FC coach Joseph Ellul was happy with the point but will hope the side is more clinical in this game.

Custodian Jemica Artillaga had a clean sheet in her first start this campaign and she will be busy again on Sunday.

Central Coast Mariners FC were once again foiled by the weather after their game against SD Raiders FC was washed out.

The Mariners haven’t played since April 30th in their 0-0 draw against Camden Tigers and will be keen to start clearing out their back log.

They will look to Annalise Rasmussen and Maya Lobo to push them forward and gain three points in the west.

Camden Tigers FC vs Hills United FC, Sunday 19 May, 3pm, Ron Dine Reserve

Camden Tigers face off against leaders Hills United FC down at Ron Dine Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers will be keen to bounce back after their 2-1 defeat to Sutherland Strikers FC at 5sports last weekend.

Cassidy Chambers was in their goal scorer in the defeat and she will be keen to feature on the scoresheet again.

Camden Tigers also have their cup tie away against Connells Point Rovers FC mid week to help off Round 2 of the competition.

Hills United FC had their unbeaten streak snapped in a shock 1-0 loss to Marconi Stallions last weekend.

The leaders will be primed to put that performance behind them and send a reminder of their title credentials.

They have plenty of firepower in the squad including winger Alix Roberts to find the back of the net on Sunday.

SD Raiders FC vs Bankstown City FC, Sunday 19 May, 3:30pm, Ernie Smith Reserve

SD Raiders FC take on Bankstown City FC down in their game at Ernie Smith Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts had their fixture against Central Coast Mariners washed out last weekend by the Sydney deluge.

SD Raiders FC have the second best defence in the League One Women’s competition and custodian Natasha Pentecost will be crucial to three points on Sunday.

It is a busy week for the hosts with their Sapphire Cup game against Lindfield FC on Wednesday night as well as this contest.

Bankstown City Lions FC won back-to-back games in their 8-0 win over South East Phoenix FC at home.

The dynamic duo of Ena Harada and Aya Seino contributed five goals in the result and they will be dangerous again on Sunday.

These two sides sit fourth and fifth in the ladder so this is a big game for the Lions to roar back into finals calculations.

Sutherland Strikers FC vs South East Phoenix FC, Sunday 19 May, 3:30pm, Harrie Denning Centre

Sutherland Strikers FC welcome South East Phoenix FC to the Harrie Denning Centre for their game on Sunday afternoon.

The Strikers won their maiden game of the campaign in a 2-1 win against Camden Tigers FC last weekend.

It was a winning debut for defender Cannon Clough who joined the club to help solidify their defence looking forward.

Sutherand Strikers FC added Sydney FC Championship duo Tori Tumeth and Lucy Johnson in the past week to help out the young side.

South East Phoenix FC were beaten 8-0 by a rampant Bankstown City Lions FC side at Jensen Park last Sunday night.

The Phoenix will be keen to get back in the winner’s circle and rise closer to the top half of the League One Women’s ladder.

Captain Peta Cottingham will lead the way for the young South East Phoenix FC side who are improving every week.

Sapphire Cup Round Up

The Sapphire Cup swings back into action for the League One Women’s sides with a whole smorgasbord of action. Tuesday night saw St George FC take on Football NSW Institute and beat the top flight outfit 2-0 with goals to Jordan Baker and Tayla Cvetkovski.

Wednesday is a big night with six sides in action, starting with SD Raiders FC hosting Lindfield FC while Blacktown City FC face off against NPL NSW Women’s leaders Manly United FC and Camden Tigers travel to face Connells Point Rovers FC.

Marconi Stallions FC go to the Article Circle face a familiar face in Gladesville Ravens FC while both South Coast Flame FC and Sutherland Strikers FC are the home teams against Kellyville Kolts FC and NPLNSW Women’s Champions Macarthur Rams FC respectively.
