2024 NAIDOC Cup begins on Awabakal Land in Lake Macquarie
Wednesday marks the start of the 2024 NAIDOC Cup, running from the 10-12 July on Awabakal Land at Lake Macquarie Regional Football Facility.
Coinciding with NAIDOC Week, the tournament sees First Nations representative teams compete in a celebration of history, culture and football.
The three-day event incorporates cultural engagement activities before Football NSW U14 and U16 teams compete against Northern NSW Football (NNSWF) representatives on the 11th and 12th July.

In its third year of operation, Football NSW will be looking to make it a three-peat in 2024. Success on the field has been replicated off it, with Football NSW’s hosting of the expanded 2023 NAIDOC Cup, featuring over 150 First Nations participants, being awarded the Inclusive Achievement of the Year Award by Sport NSW.
Football NSW Inclusion and Diversity Coordinator, Annabel Meadley, was delighted with the ongoing growth of the NAIDOC Cup initiative.
“We are thrilled to be participating in the third year of the NAIDOC Cup this week,” said Meadley
“The Cup provides a fantastic celebration of First Nations football and culture which mean a great deal to the participants involved.
“We were honoured to be receive Sport NSW’s Inclusion Achievement of the Year Award and are motivated to continue our work alongside the Football NSW Indigenous Advisory Group to develop and grow First Nations football initiatives.”
The NAIDOC Cup comes off the back of Football NSW’s Indigenous Round which was celebrated across the community on the 5-7 July 2024.
