Round 24 Preview – League One Women’s

The Football NSW League One Women’s competition arrives at Round 24 with everything still to play for teams across the division.

We have seven games to examine this weekend and is highlighted by the Match of the Round between Blacktown City FC and high-flying Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC.

Let’s get onto the preview.

Match of the Round: Blacktown City FC vs Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC, Sunday 11 August, 4pm, Landen Stadium

Blacktown City FC face off against Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC at Landen Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts featured in the Match of the Round last weekend and were beaten 6-0 by Bankstown City Lions FC.

This is a tough stretch for Blacktown City FC who face off against another title challenger as they try to build some late momentum.

Eloise Hansen led the way up front for Blacktown City FC and she will look to find the back of the net at home.

Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC ran rampant in their 7-0 win against Marconi Stallions FC at Popondetta Park.

The Town Rangers have recorded three straight wins and remain in touching distance of their goals for the season.

Rosaria Galea had a brace in their huge win which takes her to nine goals for the season and has been a shrewd signing for the visitors.

South East Phoenix FC vs Bankstown City Lions FC, Saturday 10 August, 3:15pm, South Nowra Football Complex

South East Phoenix FC host Bankstown City Lions FC at South Nowra Football Complex on Saturday afternoon.

The Phoenix look to put their 6-0 loss to Central Coast Mariners FC at Pluim Park last weekend behind them.

It has been an up and down season for South East Phoenix FC but the side look to finish on a high and move up from 15th place.

Captain Peta Cottingham has featured in most of the Phoenix’s games this season and she will lead the side again on Sunday.

Bankstown City Lions FC won 6-0 in the Match of the Round last weekend against Blacktown City FC.

The Lions are firing on all cylinders headed into the finals and have cemented themselves in the top three.

Livewire winger Chiara Cencigh added the final goal in the result and her pace will be key for the Lions on Saturday.

Marconi Stallions FC vs Hills United FC, Sunday 11 August, 3pm, Marconi Stadium #2

Marconi Stallions take on Hills United FC in their game at Marconi Stadium #2 on Sunday afternoon.

The Stallions look to bounce back after their 7-0 loss to Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC last weekend.

Custodian Isabella Sollecito had a fabulous performance in the last meeting and she will be key to the Stallions getting something from this game.

It is all about playing spoiler for Marconi for the last few games and they have shown to frustrate teams throughout the season.

Hills United FC were beaten 2-1 in their game against SD Raiders FC at Bella Vista Public School last Sunday.

The visitors were handed their first loss of the season by the Stallions last time out so they will be keen for revenge.

Hills United FC are now on the outside looking in towards the top four and need to string together results to keep up their 100% finals appearance record.

Nepean FC vs Inter Lions FC, Sunday 11 August, 3pm, Cook Park

Nepean FC take on Inter Lions FC in an intriguing game down at Cook Park on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts opened up Round 23 and were beaten 5-0 by South Coast Flame FC down at Kembla Grange.

These two sides had a stalemate in their previous encounter but Nepean FC will want three points at home.

Up front, Nepean FC will look towards Gemma Morgan and Keira Geoghegan to push them forward.

Inter Lions FC were beaten 1-0 by Camden Tigers in their game at Majors Bay Reserve last weekend.

The Lions will head into this game in high spirits as they look to get their third win of the season and move off the bottom of the ladder.

Caitlin Webster is the leading scorer for the Lions and she will be ready to fire again for the visitors.

Camden Tigers FC vs Sutherland Strikers FC, Sunday 11 August, 3pm, Ron Dine Reserve

Camden Tigers FC welcome Sutherland Strikers FC down to Ron Dine Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers won 1-0 against fellow strugglers Inter Lions FC in their game away from home last weekend.

Cassidy Chambers was the goal scorer in the win and she will be keen to add to her tally on Sunday.

The Tigers will be without the experienced Ashleigh Long after she was shown a red card in the game against Inter Lions FC.

Sutherland Strikers FC were beaten 9-1 in the local derby against St George FC on their home turf last Sunday.

The Strikers hope to banish last week’s effort from their mind and get back in the winner’s circle in the south-west.

Tori Tumeth opened the scoring before they were blown away and the Sydney FC star has been a huge asset to the Strikers side.

SD Raiders FC vs Central Coast Mariners FC, Sunday 11 August, 3:30pm, Ernie Smith Reserve

SD Raiders FC face off against Central Coast Mariners FC at Ernie Smith Reserve on Sunday afternoon.

The hosts recorded a big 2-1 win against fellow finals contender Hills United FC at Bella Vista Public School.

SD Raiders FC moved to the top of the League One Women’s competition after their six point week which included a 1-0 win against the Mariners.

Madeleine Malone scored her maiden goal for SD Raiders FC in their Hills United FC win and has been a pivotal part of their midfield this season.

Central Coast Mariners FC won 6-0 against South East Phoenix FC in the distance derby last Sunday.

This week is last chance saloon for the yellow-and-navy in their chase for finals football this season.

The Mariners will look towards goal scorer Shani Cooney-Cross to find the back of the net again in this game.

St George FC vs South Coast Flame FC, Sunday 11 August, 6pm, Sir Ian McLennan Park

Rounding off the weekend is St George FC hosting South Coast Flame FC at Sir Ian McLennan Park on Sunday night.

The Saints had a thumping 9-1 win against local rivals Sutherland Strikers FC at Harrie Denning Centre.

Alexia Saltirov scored her first goal for St George FC since her transfer and she has been a important link in their attack.

That was a big win for St George FC who have moved into the League One Women’s top four with three weeks to go.

South Coast Flame FC were 5-0 winners against Nepean FC in their game at Sir Ian McLennan Park last Saturday night.

The Flame were beaten 3-1 in the previous game back in Round 11 so they will look to play spoiler on Sunday night.

Paula Mitchell had a brace in their five-star performance and hopes to add to her tally of six goals this season in this game.
