Round 24 Review – League One Women’s
It was a weekend for marathons and it was the same for Round 24 in the marathon that is the Football NSW League One Women’s competition as teams can spy the finish line.
There were seven games to examine across the weekend highlighted by the Match of the Round between Blacktown City FC and Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC.

Match of the Round: Blacktown City FC vs Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC
Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC won 3-0 against Blacktown City FC at Landen Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Blacktown City FC had their moments in the game but were unable to trouble the scoresheet against a top side. Their best chances fell to Amber Precious and Cassidy Chidgey in the second half in the defeat.
Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC keep chugging on in their pursuit of the title with another three points this afternoon. Rita Boateng made it 1-0 in the 9th minute then Rosaria Galea scored an Olimpico for 2-0 in the 47th minute before Boateng added the third in stoppage time.
Both Blacktown City FC and Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC walked onto Landen Stadium looking for three points.
The Town Rangers made it 1-0 in the 9th minute through Rita Boateng. She strode forward, rounded the keeper and slotted home.
The visitors held much of the ball in the first half but were restricted to long shots by the Blacktown City FC defence.
Blacktown City FC had a chance to pull one back from a set piece. It was sent into the area but fizzed over the bar.
Mt Druitt Town Rangers went close again from inside the box. It was a chance which fell to Rosaria Galea who sent it over.
Blacktown City FC were getting in dangerous areas but unable to find any final product to trouble Town Rangers keeper Renee Krstanovska.
Coming out of the break, Mt Druitt felt just fine. Galea provided another magic moment when she curled in a corner which went straight into the goal for 2-0 in the 47th minute.
Galea was the fulcrum for the Town Rangers attack in this contest. She had another shot from range which looped over the bar.
Blacktown City FC kept pushing to get on the scoresheet. Amber Precious unfurled an effort which whistled past the right post.
Leena Khamis went close to adding a third for Mt Druitt. She connected well with a header but couldn’t find the back of the net.
The hosts had another chance from a set piece which was swung in onto the head of Cassidy Chidgey to crane wide.
Chidgey almost caught out Krstanovska with an effort. The striker spied her off the line and sent in an effort which required a save.
The Town Rangers were inches away from a third. Boateng poked an effort towards goal which was cleared off the line.
Blacktown City FC had a late free-kick to get on the scoreboard. Chidgey curled in the set piece which went over the bar.
Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC made it 3-0 in the 96th minute. Boateng glided past her defender then cushioned the ball into the bottom corner.

South East Phoenix FC 1 defeated by Bankstown City Lions FC 4
Bankstown City Lions FC won 4-1 against South East Phoenix FC down at South Nowra Football Complex on Saturday afternoon.
The Lions worked hard for another three points which maintains their fantastic run in the League One Women’s competition. Neither side could find a breakthrough in the first half and went to the break at 0-0.
South East Phoenix FC then shocked the Lions and made it 1-0 in 54th minute through Claire Scott before Aya Seino made it 1-1 for Bankstown from the spot in the 68th minute. Chelsea Greguric completed the turn around for 2-1 in the 69th minute then Chiara Cencigh scored for 3-1 in the 70th minute. An own goal rounded off the 4-1 win for the Lions in the 90th minute.
Marconi Stallions FC 2 defeated Hills United FC 1
Marconi Stallions FC won 2-1 against Hills United FC at Marconi Stadium #2 on Sunday afternoon.
The result saw the Stallions knock over Hills United FC for a second time this season while also continuing their strong second half of the season. Marconi Stallions made it 1-0 through Sarah Urquhart before Ellen Berios equalized for Hills United FC for 1-1 at the break.
Marconi Stallions snatched all three points in the second half through Marie Herrara to make it 2-1 for the hosts. The Stallions holding on for three points, delivering a massive blow to Hills United FC’s finals hopes.
Nepean FC 1 defeated by Inter Lions FC 3
Inter Lions FC won 3-1 against Nepean FC in their game down at Cook Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions move off the bottom of the League One Women’s ladder after their result away from home. Alicia Lee opened the scoring for Inter Lions FC to make it 1-0 in the 44th minute for a one-goal half-time lead.
Paris Staal leveled the game at 1-1 in the 55th minute for Nepean FC before substitute Melina Visser gave Inter Lions FC the lead back in the 69th minute for 2-1. Lee made it 3-1 in the 77th minute with her second goal of the game.
Camden Tigers FC 0 defeated by Sutherland Strikers FC 1
Sutherland Strikers FC won 1-0 against Camden Tigers FC down at Ron Dine Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
The Strikers bounced back from their loss last weekend and got back in the winner’s circle away from home. The game was a stalemate in the first half and the two teams went into the break locked up at 0-0.
It was Tori Tumeth who was the hero for Sutherland Strikers FC in the second half after she found the back of the net in the 48th minute for 1-0. The Strikers then held off a late surge from Camden Tigers to get the win.
SD Raiders FC 2 defeated Central Coast Mariners FC 1
Leaders SD Raiders FC won 2-1 against a dogged Central Coast Mariners side at Ernie Smith Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
A result which sees SD Raiders FC maintain their grip on top spot after picking up three points headed into the final fortnight. Central Coast Mariners FC made it 1-0 in the 38th minute through Matilda Gallagher to surprise the hosts.
The hosts brought on Miriam Zumaya at half-time and the substitute equalized for 1-1 in the 65th minute. Taiana Almeida completed the turnaround for SD Raiders FC in the 91st minute to make it 2-1 and take the win.
St George FC 3 defeated South Coast Flame FC 1
St George FC won 3-1 against South Coast Flame FC down at Sir Ian McLennan Park on Sunday night.
The Saints have almost secured a top four spot after their fourth win on the trot. South Coast Flame were the first to find the back of the net through Jessica Cruickshank in 22nd minute for 1-0 before Kyla Vanderlaan equalized for St George FC in the 44th minute for 1-1.
St George FC pushed forward in the second half to get the vital result and continue their title defence. Janan Codmani made it 2-1 in the 48th minute then Jordan Baker rounded off the win in the 71st minute after making it 3-1.
