Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC technical director Neil Ross has been involved in the game for a long time and knows how to build up a club.

Ross has helped the Rangers since they were brought back into League One Women’s from a cellar dweller to a top contender.

There is also a sense of vindication for the club to get back to this level after several years in the wilderness.

“There is vindication for some at the club, seeing us back at this level. We started this project four years ago even before we got admitted.

“We had teams playing 20s and All-Ages in local competitions to give us a base to build upon headed into League One Women’s”

That base has built into a strong foundation which has seen them eligible for promotion to NPL NSW Women’s and a bright future.

“The first years was getting the word out, getting sponsors followed by word of mouth helping us secure talented players.

“It has been a great effort across that timeline and everyone at the club is delighted because I think this has been our most successful period for the Women’s program.

“We built it with a solid spine of players. Having Renee [Krstanovska], Holly [Williams] and Rita [Boateng] has been key for us.”

“Also we have clearly defined roles for our coaches which helps them to specialize and get the best out of the team.”

Looking back on the season, Ross picked out two results which typified the club’s success in 2024.

“I think the 7-0 against Marconi was one of my favourites, we were on fire that day also the 3-2 win against Bankstown which featured a bicycle kick from Rita.”

It is clear to see the team spirit at Rangers and Ross adds that the culture of the team has been important.

“We have built a good culture around the club, we always go back to the sheds to sing the song and we’re all really close.”

Ross has been a busy man this season, besides Rangers he has juggled coaching the Winston Hills Bears in the local competition.

“I have been going seven days a week this season but it has been rewarding and kept me busy with family, football and full-time work.”

Looking forward to Sunday, Ross is confident in the side getting the result and lifting the trophy at Landen.

“I think we have the strongest backline in the competition which is shown in keeping plenty of clean sheets this season.”

“We have worked through every situation this week headed into the Grand Final and we’ve made sure everything is correct.”

Mt Druitt Town Rangers FC are looking at putting the icing on the cake against St George FC in the League One Women’s Grand Final at Landen Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
