It was a memorable Champion of Champions Finals for Eastern Suburbs Football Association (ESFA) side Coogee United who etched their name in the Football NSW history books becoming the first team to win both the All Age Men’s and All Age Women’s finals at Valentine Sports Park.

The powerhouse club from the East saw their All Age Women’s side defeat Sutherland Shire FA’s Gymea United 2-1 while in the All Age Men’s, Coogee United edged out Northern Suburbs FA’s Lindfield FC 2-1 in a remarkable day for the club.

Coached by Micheal Caufield, the Women’s side could not hide their delight upon taking out Football NSW’s prestigious grassroots Cup. It was all blood, sweat and tears after the same team tasted a heartbreaking Golden Goal defeat in 2022 which made this win one for the ages.

While for the Men’s side, it was no secret that the club was aiming for every piece of silverware possible thanks to the coaching leadership of former National Premier Leagues Men’s NSW player, formerly of Hakoah Sydney City East, Brad Walker. Having won the Champion of Champions title in 2018, the club bonded together and fought tooth and nail in capturing the Champion of Champions title once more with the inspiration of the late Deklan Gilmartin and Daniel Murphy spurring the team on to victory.

It was a proud day for ESFA who equally were overwhelmed with the victories of both Coogee United clubs as well as their over 45’s side Dunbar Rovers who were crowed Champions defeating Manly Warringah FA’s Mosman FC 3-2. This victory was the icing on the cake as the Rovers kept its 100% record intact failing to lose a match in 2024. It was a huge moment for club captain Danny Fee who remarkably lifted his third Champion of Champions title with the Rovers having previously won it 2008 with the All Age Men and then in 2018 with the Over 35’s.

“The Eastern Suburbs Football Association is incredibly proud of all three teams and both Clubs in their success in 2024,” the Association proudly stated.

“It was a pleasure to have witnessed such incredible feats and be a part of their journeys.

“This historic Football NSW Champion of Champions campaign may prove hard to emulate and equal in the future years to come, though we are sure everyone loves a challenge and to write their own history.”

Congratulations to all three clubs and the ESFA Association on what was an unforgettable 2024 Champion of Champions.
