Round 8 in the Futsal Premier League 2 Open Men’s competition showed how competitive it is after another thrilling weekend of action. Raiders Futsal Club faced off against Sydney Futsal Club in the Match of the Round.

Match of the Round: Raiders Futsal Club 3 drew with Sydney Futsal Club 3

Raiders Futsal Club and Sydney Futsal Club had a 3-3 draw at Thomas Hassell Anglican College on Saturday afternoon.

The hosts held a slender 1-0 going into the break after Sebastian Malfara’s 7th minute goal before they were pegged back. Malfara added a second alongside a goal from Tomas Medimurac for 3-1 but two late goals saw them share the points.

Sydney Futsal Club dug deep to get something from this contest. Michael Loupis fired home twice, in the 25th minute for 1-1 then in the 26th minute for 2-1. Patrick Pace then struck in the 38th minute to make it 3-3.

The visitors had the first two chances of the game. Patrick Pace with the first which went wide before a Michael Loupis back heel followed suit.

Raiders Futsal Club then found their rhythm and warmed the gloves of Sydney Futsal Club keeper Wilson Howden twice.

While Loupis continued to be the outlet for Sydney Futsal Club. He fired wide from a kick-in then Giacomo Di Mento was denied on the break.

Another chance soon followed when Sebastian Malfara unfurled an effort which Howden tipped over as the game started to open up between these two.

Raiders Futsal Club keeper almost lobbed one into the net but Howden was able to recover and save the blushes.

The hosts made it 1-0 in the 7th minute. Malfara found some space and he rifled home in the bottom corner.

In response, Sydney Futsal Club piled up some chances to equalize. Jaime Gutierrez flicked right at Ibrahim while Gustav Soerensen and James Hyde had efforts.

Omid Mokhtar went close twice to give Raiders Futsal Club a two-goal cushion but the hosts headed into the break leading 1-0.

Sydney Futsal Club levelled in the 25th minute. Loupis was found on the run and rocketed into the corner to make it 1-1.

Loupis quickly made it 2-1 as Sydney Futsal Club to complete the turnaround. He snatched it off a defender and rolled home in the 26th minute.

Conceding twice sparked Raiders Futsal Club into action. Malfara had a pair of shots while Jovan Miladinovic fizzed wide.

It was Malfara that made it 2-2 in the 28th minute. He glided past a defender and fired into the net to level the game.

Malfara turned provider to hand Raiders Futsal Club back their lead. He drove down the wing before finding Tomas Medimurac who swept home for 3-2 in the 30th minute.

Both teams punished the woodwork in this clash. Loupis hit the post for Sydney Futsal Club then Medimurac did similar for Raiders Futsal Club.

Di Mento carved an effort over for Sydney Futsal Club as they chased another equalizer in a close contest.

Sydney Futsal Club made it 3-3 in the 38th minute. Dion Kellis sprung free in the corner and found Patrick Pace to fire into the net.

Again, Raiders Futsal Club smashed the post. Christopher Godoy Bascur left it rattling then Malfara, who was the engine of the Raiders Futsal Club attack struck it.

Loupis almost snatched the game late for the visitors. He was found with a well-directed pass but Daniel stopped him to ensure a 3-3 draw.

Post match, Raiders Futsal Club coach Slaven Ljuboja reflected on the draw saying “it felt like a loss in a tough game. We defended well but missed chances which cost us.”

For Sydney Futsal Club’s Patrick Pace he spoke about the result. “It could’ve gone either way but we had a lot of chances which we need to work on. We had a few boys out but our youth is strong and played well.”

APIA FC Futsal 12 defeated SD Raiders Futsal 8

APIA FC Futsal were 12-8 winners against SD Raiders Futsal at Valentine Sports Park on Saturday afternoon.

It was SD Raiders Futsal that flew out of the blocks in this contest. Peter Daniel made it 1-0 in the 2nd minute then Matthew Barkho scored twice in the 14th minute for 3-0 then completed his hat-trick for 4-0 before Carl Skoba rolled home in the 20th minute for 5-0. APIA FC Futsal pulled one back through Bilal Belkadi in the 20th minute for 5-1.

That spurred APIA FC forward in the second half to turn the game around. Belkadi made it 5-2 in the 21st minute then Marcus Sparacino made it 5-3. Skoba pushed SD Raiders Futsal ahead 6-3 with his second. APIA FC Futsal continued to cut into the deficit through Belkadi and Ethan Debono which made it 6-5.

The scoring continued to see-saw between these two sides. SD Raiders Futsal pushed their lead out again to 8-5 through Barkho scoring his fourth and Dylan Pullicino finding the back of the net. APIA FC Futsal would put on the afterburners and take the three points after that.

Belkadi scored his fourth for 8-6 then Sparacino and Tyson Savas scored goals which levelled the game at 8-8. Savas gave APIA FC Futsal their first lead in the 35th minute for 9-8 then Belkadi, Sparacino and Debono all scored to round out the 12-8 scoreline.

Phoenix Futsal Club 2 drew with West City Crusaders 2

Phoenix Futsal Club and West City Crusaders shared the points in a 2-2 draw at The Centre – Dural on Saturday night.

These two title contenders had a pulsating contest in which neither team could be separated after 40 minutes. The first flashpoint of the game was West City Crusaders Benjamin Lam seeing red in the 18th minute, but the game went into the break at 0-0.

West City Crusaders broke the deadlock in the 25th minute through Stuart Gosling for 1-0 then doubled their delight in the 30th minute with Alexander Murrell firing home to give them a 2-0 lead.

Phoenix Futsal Club showed grit and produced a late comeback to get a point. Matthew Luttringer volleyed home for 2-1 in the 31st minute then Connor Slater weaved through the defence for 2-2 in the 37th minute. Phoenix Futsal Club keeper James Brunacci saved a last minute penalty to ensure the hosts got something from the game.
