Round 9 Preview – League One Women’s

Round 9 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition is another exciting week of action served up after the long weekend.
There are six games included in the fixtures this weekend headlined by the Match of the Round between Sutherland Strikers FC and Hills United FC.
Let’s get onto the preview.
Match of the Round: Sutherland Strikers FC vs Hills United FC, Sunday 27 April, 4:30pm, Harrie Denning Centre
Sutherland Strikers FC face off against Hills United FC at Harrie Denning Centre on Sunday afternoon.
The Strikers took the lead before Camden Tigers ran over them late in a 2-1 loss at Harrie Denning Centre on Monday.
While they lost, Sutherland Strikers FC will take plenty of heart from their performance and aim to repeat it against the league leaders.
A consistent presence in the Strikers line-up is Annika Wende-Dunstan who has appeared in every game this season.
Hills United FC kept chugging along with a 5-0 win against Blacktown Spartans FC at Valentine Sports Park.
The strike partnership between Gemma Woolley and Jess Wootton are firing on all cylinders thus far this season.
Hills United FC alongside St George FC remain the unbeaten sides and are poised to feature in title conversations again.

SD Raiders FC vs Nepean FC, Sunday 27 April, 3pm, Cirillo Reserve
SD Raiders FC host Nepean FC in their game down played at Cirillo Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
The hosts were in fine fettle in the second half to run out 5-0 winners against Inter Lions FC last round.
Tenealle Hay led the way with a hat-trick in their result and she has been shining for her new side in 2025.
Midfield maestro Layne Knight opened the scoring and she has been a dedicated performer for SD Raiders FC in the last few seasons.
Nepean FC were beaten 11-0 against a rampant St George FC side in their game which was played at Cook Park.
It has been a rough year for Nepean FC but the young side will take their learnings to put in a better shift on Sunday.
One positive for Nepean FC is their progression in the Sapphire Cup. They have been drawn against fellow League One Women’s side Blacktown Spartans FC in Round 3.
St George FC vs Inter Lions FC, Sunday 27 April, 4:30pm, Barton Park
St George FC welcome Inter Lions FC to Barton Park for their intriguing contest on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints crushed Nepean FC 11-0 in their clash at Cook Park played in the Easter Monday fixtures for Round 8.
That result underlined the firepower that St George FC have in their squad with eight different scorers.
Paris Alcorn made her first appearance in First Grade for the season and scored a goal so that adds another string to the Saints bow.
Inter Lions FC battled hard before falling 5-0 against SD Raiders FC at Majors Bay Reserve last Monday.
Both Isabella King and Amy Humphrey work hard on each flank and will look to push forward at times on Sunday.
The Lions will have their Sapphire Cup fixture against Banksia Tigers FC this week so it is a big few days for the club.
Central Coast Mariners FC vs Blacktown City FC, Sunday 27 April, 5pm, Pluim Park
Central Coast Mariners FC head home to play Blacktown City FC down at Pluim Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Mariners are ready and raring to go after being the odd side out with the bye in Round 8 of the League One Women’s competition.
Lily McMahon is their main set piece taker and her delivery helped them to a dramatic point back in Round 7.
It is finally home, sweet home for the Mariners who have their first game at Pluim Park after being on the road for two months.
Blacktown City FC clawed back a point in a 2-2 draw against Bankstown City Lions FC in last week’s Match of the Round.
Jessica Anand scored the equalizer and she was energetic down the wing all game so she will be a key cog for them on Sunday.
Things are moving in the right direction for Blacktown City FC after two improved performances and now they aim to add to their points collection.
Bankstown City Lions FC vs Marconi Stallions FC, Sunday 27 April, 5pm, Jensen Park
Bankstown City Lions FC take on Marconi Stallions FC down at Jensen Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions featured in a pulsating 2-2 draw against Blacktown City FC in the Match of the Round last weekend.
Stephane Ambrose put them ahead with her curling free-kick and will be dangerous again on set piece duty.
Coach Ante Covic will look for a response from his side after a downbeat performance from them last Saturday.
Marconi Stallions FC put in a professional performance to beat South Coast Flame FC 1-0 down in Kemba Grange.
Sarah Urquhart was the match winner for the Stallions with her first of the season and she will be ready to find the back of the net again.
The Stallions have built their early season form on their defence and they need to be rock solid on Sunday.
Blacktown Spartans FC vs South Coast Flame FC, Sunday 27 April, 5pm, Blacktown Football Park
Blacktown Spartans FC host South Coast Flame FC down at Blacktown Football Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Spartans were beaten 5-0 by league leaders Hills United FC at Valentine Sports Park on Easter Monday.
Lili Rosandic has been a leader from the back for Spartans and with her passing vision she might unlock the Flame defence.
Blacktown Spartans FC found out their Round 3 draw in the Sapphire Cup and face fellow League One Women’s side Nepean FC.
South Coast Flame FC were beaten 1-0 against high flying Marconi Stallions at Sir Ian McLennan Park last Saturday.
Jarrah Fuz has thrived well at Flame since her move from South East Phoenix FC and is a big component for the side.
The Flame have stumbled after their hot start to the season and look to make a big statement on Sunday.
