Round 11 Review – League One Women’s

Round 11 in the Football NSW League One Women’s competition was a weekend where there was plenty of movement between the top six sides in the league and our last unbeaten side fell.
There were six games to reflect on from Sunday including the Match of the Round between Central Coast Mariners FC and Hills United FC.

Match of the Round: Central Coast Mariners FC 2 defeated Hills United FC 1
Central Coast Mariners FC won 2-1 against Hills United FC down at Pluim Park on Sunday evening.
It was home, sweet home for the Central Coast Mariners FC. A brace from Peyton Scollay in the 19th and 46th minute saw them collect all three points in their chase for a top four spot in League One Women’s.
Hills United FC had their unbeaten start to the season snapped in this loss. Elin Rosenberg Cemazar equalised in the 40th minute before conceding in first half stoppage. They threw everything at the Mariners to find a second but fell short.
Both Central Coast Mariners FC and Hills United FC walked onto a wet Pluim Park looking for three big points.
Hills United FC surged forward in the opening stages to try and prise open the Central Coast Mariners FC defence.
The Mariners were the first side to offer up a shot and fired one right at Hills United FC custodian Nicola Simmons.
Central Coast Mariners FC made it 1-0 in the 19th minute. Annalise Brewster drove forward then cut it back for Peyton Scollay to find the back of the net.
Scollay turned provider soon after. She released a pass for Ava Moller who was denied by a superb tackle from Aisling Davidson.
Hills United FC went close from a set piece. Bella Donaldson put the free-kick right onto the head of Davidson who nodded wide.
Donaldson had another opportunity from the dead ball. It was closer to the box but it curled over the bar.
The visitors kept pushing for an equaliser. Bianca Galayini drove forward and speared an effort wide of the right post.
Next, Elin Rosenberg Cemazar weaved through the defence then threaded through Gemma Woolley who bent it wide.
Hills United FC made it 1-1 in the 40th minute. Jess Wootton played in Cemazar who rolled the ball home.
Rachel Glendenning was heavily involved in the first half. The Hills United FC midfielder wriggled free and fired a shot right at Mariners keeper Kyara O’Brien.
The visitors tried to finish the half in front. Woolley turned well and unfurled one which went right to O’Brien.
Central Coast produced a sucker punch in first half stoppage time to make it 2-1. A loose pass fell to Scollay who fired home for 2-1 in the 46th minute.
Hills United FC came out of the break looking for another goal. They had a pair of corners which were swept away.
The Mariners almost got themselves a two-goal cushion. Eliza Familton was threaded through and denied well by Simmons.
Wootton tried to give Hills United FC a spark in their chase for an equaliser. She turned well again and fired wide.
Hills United FC emptied their bench in search of a goal. Substitute Ellen Berios tried to curl one towards goal but it flew wide.
The visitors had a few set pieces late to get something. Wootton and Davidson both made contact but couldn’t force a save.
Substitute Matilda Gallagher tried to finish the game for the Mariners. She drove forward and her strike went straight to Simmons.
Hills United FC threw everyone forward in stoppage time but the Mariners held on for an important three points.

St George FC 5 defeated Blacktown Spartans FC 0
St George FC were 5-0 winners against Blacktown Spartans FC down at Barton Park on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints returned to the winner’s circle with a clinical display. Sharpshooter Jordan Baker made it 1-0 in the 27th minute before Danielle Rutstien doubled their delight for 2-0 in the 46th minute for a two-goal lead at the break.
St George FC kept their foot on the gas in the second half against a well structured Spartans defence. It took them until the 73rd minute to make it 3-0 when substitute Morgan Maxwell found the back of the net. Another substitute Genevieve Russo scored for 4-0 in the 77th minute then Janan Codmani rounded off the five-star performance for 5-0 in the 80th minute.
Sutherland Strikers FC 1 drew with South Coast Flame FC 1
Points were shared in a 1-1 draw between Sutherland Strikers FC and South Coast Flame FC at Harrie Denning Centre on Sunday afternoon.
It was a feisty encounter between the two sides and it ignited in the opening minute when South Coast Flame FC match winner last week Alexis Malizis saw red. Sutherland Strikers FC took advantage quickly with Dianne Wilson making it 1-0 and the hosts held off the Flame for the rest of the half to take a lead into the break.
South Coast Flame FC came out firing in the second half and found an equaliser in the 57th minute through Emily Kostovski for 1-1. Both sides fought tooth and nail for a winner but the full-time whistle blew and the points were shared which knocked the Flame out of the top four.
Camden Tigers FC 0 defeated by Bankstown City Lions FC 3
Bankstown City Lions FC won 3-0 against Camden Tigers FC at Ron Dine Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
The Lions roared back with a valuable three points against a tricky Camden Tigers FC side in Camden. Krystallia Kallidakis made it 1-0 for Bankstown City Lions FC in the 25th minute for a single goal lead at the break.
They kept pushing for further goals in the second half to confirm the win. Kallidakis collected a second goal while goal poacher Chelsea Greguric also found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the campaign.
Marconi Stallions FC 2 defeated Inter Lions FC 1
Marconi Stallions FC won 2-1 against Inter Lions FC down at Marconi Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Stallions collected a big win which they had to fight for against a gallant Inter Lions FC side. Marconi Stallions FC made it 1-0 in the 14th minute through Angelina Graiche before Kiara Coscia levelled for Inter Lions FC in the 24th minute for 1-1.
Marconi Stallions FC took a lead into the break after Graiche fired home her second goal in the 42nd minute for 2-1. The Lions battled hard in the second half but their quest was hampered by a red card for Hannah Charak in the 77th minute as the Stallions saw out the rest of the game expertly.
SD Raiders FC 4 defeated Blacktown City FC 1
SD Raiders FC won 4-1 against Blacktown City FC at Ernie Smith Reserve on Sunday evening.
The hosts continue their hot streak with a fifth straight win which has them equal top of the League One Women’s ladder. Abigail Boag made it 1-0 for SD Raiders FC in the 14th minute then defender Rhea D’Mello levelled for Blacktown City FC in the 19th minute for 1-1 which held until the half-time whistle.
SD Raiders FC ran away with the contest in the second half. Sharina Harris gave them a 2-1 lead in the 66th minute followed by Erin Phelan making it 3-1 in the 79th minute. Madeleine Malone got herself on the scoresheet in the 82nd minute for a 4-1 final score.
